It went well and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I would have transitioned without HRT if need be. I think the fact that I'm past 9 months living full time now is proof of that. I know the few pics on here of me don't show the progression. As I go back ;pplomh at my profile photos on my facebook page and the change is remarkable over that time that I and everyone sees. The last photo, which is also on here, is exactly at the 9 month point. Was I clocked yes, but on the most part people are to busy with their own lives to truly care or notice. I was more self conscious of it at first than they were. In fact even before I went full time they already thought of me as female while I was dressed andro and my natural hair was all they had to go by. The big giveaway early is my voice wasn't up high enough to pass consistently. My ability to sing and naturally on my own work on voice has really helped to such an extent that my voice is higher than the main gender therapist I have. No real abuse to speak about I was mistreated to a much larger extent before transitioning. I really haven't had problems with anyone. I go about my life and they go about there's. No regrets. I have been so fortunate and lucky that this transition has been rather smooth.

I went full time about 6 weeks before hrt.

Do you know that mtf HRT has no effect on our voice?

I didn't pass then, and still don't pass now the majority of the time. However, the HRT has softened my skin and slowed hair regrowth, Ive done 2 rounds of laser hair removal on my face, my anxiety is better, and Ive become more comfortable in my skin (and have improved at finding a style that I like and fits my shape). So i'm on my way!

I think that the best thing about waiting to begin HRT before presenting full-time is that it really helped with anxiety once I did start.

I don't regret it, because I didn't have a choice anymore. It felt desperate, like I couldn't go another day living as a man. I did it for myself, not other people. It was very challenging. People always staring at me as I went by them on the streets or in grocery stores. It exhausted me mentally because I was often in a fight/flight/freeze state.

Positivity is exceedingly important, despite if you pass or not. If I had to start over again, I would employ the constant, positive self talk that is so transformative to my experience. I tell myself I am beautiful and lovely everyday, despite if I am looking like a boy or not. Its incredible how our bodies and spirit respond to positive, self talk. It can completely alter my experience.

I went full time on 7/22/2013  started HRT 12/25/ 2013  I could not stand dressing as a male. Started using women's bathrooms the same day and unbelievably was never questioned and to this day don't understand why not because in my mind there was no way I passed by any stretch of the imagination. It took a lot of courage but I did not have a choice. It was a top of the grass or bottom of the grass time in my journey  :)  Patty

Thank you for the replies so far. it must take alot of bravenesscourage, so early. I did know hrt didn't affect voice, but figured  if your on hrt you probably have some practice time before you go out.

it's nice to hear that the experiences wasn't as negative as I'd assume it would be

Hi Hon,

I went FT after about a month on HRT. I reached a point at work on a Friday that I just blurted out that I was trans* and was going to be me. On the Monday I fronted up as me.

I got flowers, hugs and total acceptance.

The following weekend I gave all my male clothes to the goodwill shop.

It is very liberating being normal

Good luck with your journey.

I went full time about four months before hrt. I did it so that by the time I got to Leeds gic I'd be able to point to a good chunk of time as full time, this fulfilling part of the RLE requirement. It worked and sped up the process considerably, so I'm glad I did it.

People said I passed back then but I think it was variable to say the least. I got some funny looks sometimes. No real abuse though. The biggest problem was that I had no confidence, hated the way I looked and hated being outside. So it was extremely grim, I'm so glad I'm past that stage now (just over a year hrt and post ffs).

It comes down to the individual I guess, there are a lot of girls on here that don't want to go full time until hrt has made them passable, but hrt is very slow and the effects aren't as big as are sometimes claimed, so waiting that time can really stretch out a transition. I've used my 1 1/2 years of full time to get to know myself as a woman, figure out my style, makeup etc. Some of that stuff you only really figure out when you are doing it every day.

I believe it has a minimal effect. In fact voice change was one of the possible effects I had to acknowledge when signing the paperwork for HRT.

However I doubt the change will be enough to pass with.

In retrospect I kind of wish I did because now I get the weirdest looks when I'm dressed as a guy but close to none when dressed as a girl. But I still have to clear summer and my name change. because of work I need to make sure my name matches since 99% of communication I engage in is electronic. I'm kind of stuck because I have travel plans and tickets booked for yeson and it's a pain in the neck to do a name change with the airline. Ah well.
