Title: Presenting in front of over a hundred trainee cops

OK, so this is part of my job: policing the police. And it's one I've done before - telling the baby cops to be good boys and girls, to not step out of line, and to avoid getting complaints
The difference this time was that I was there as Ros. Outcome? Same kind of deal as normal: there were smart ones, half asleep ones, keen ones, not so bright ones and so on.mNow, I don't think my being trans* would have been a surprise to them.......the voice, through a big microphone, was probably a clear sign! However, there was nothing said, giggled, whispered or suggested from my audience. Which is how it should be, of course.
Although I did not expect that there would be any issues, I was still really happy that I had given the presentation and there were no negatives. It felt extremely liberating, to be honest. And normal - happy normal!
Just wanted to share! :) :)

I was one of those baby cops once :) We always appreciated outside presenters coming in, so we didn't have to hear the academy staff droning on and on.
Thank you for doing what you do! Even in big cities where I was, certain districts don't have as high concentrations of anything LGBTQ, so these presentations were the only exposure that young officers would get if they were assigned to those places. Even if they never meet a transperson in their time on the job, I think we all feel better knowing that they've at least had a little education.

Right on! Cops have always been scary to me 'cause I grew up in a poor neighborhood, and we've all seen how ugly bigotry can be in a position of authority. Here's hoping your babies grow up to be understanding, tolerant, and fair coppers!

Thanks ftmax and sparrow!
I hope it was an education of sorts - we're not hiding, and we are out there getting on with our lives!

Nice one! It is great when we can reach out and be seen as normal men and women.
Thank you
Thank you

Me, too. A similar moment last month.

I sometimes deliver lecture to a bigger audience, too.
Yes. Some people confess later that they were dismayed at my low voice.
