Title: McGinn / New Hope PA - accommodations tips?
Post by: kayg on April 21, 2015, 06:15:52 PM
Hi, all. Wondering if anyone who's had GRS with Dr. McGinn in the last two or three years can comment on their choice of post-hospital accommodations. McGinn's office recommends Gaia or Fox and Hound guesthouses. Any word on these? Other options? I'd prefer someplace like an extended stay hotel with a usable kitchen, for the friend who will be accompanying me, but that may not be in the cards.

Thanks!
Kay

Yes, thanks! I saw that one. Looking for more experiences, especially newer ones. :)

My SRS was last summer (2014) and I stayed in the GAIA house for the first two weeks postop. I can't express how much I'd recommend the GAIA house over any where else. It's just an amazing place for physical and emotional healing, especially after such physically and emotionally challenging surgeries.

I'm at work but I could post some tips or answer questions later?

Thank you! Helpful to hear from someone who's been through the experience quite recently. I would certainly love some tips about GAIA. Particularly great rooms? Things to avoid. Did you stay longer than the recommended period (one week after the hospital stay)? Which period of the stay was the most challenging? I imagine the earlier part, but maybe that's not the case.

(Feel free to send me a private message too, if you prefer.)

Short summary as I'm at work again, gotta love hospital hours!  :-\

I won't comment on any clinical experiences to do with the actual surgery and subsequent stay as I'm scared it might cause you anxiety for those specific instances; e.g. if I say I had trouble sitting (I didn't this is just an example), you might be nervous about sitting and it could effect your experience. Plus it varies for everyone.

All the rooms are lovely, really. GAIA's care taker can help you decide on a particular room. It's a completely personal choice. You may not want the smallest room for your extended stay since it might get a little cramped over the week or so that you're there, although I think the smaller rooms are so cute for a short stay in town.

Welcome your partner/friend/helper that tags along with you to explore New Hope and the area. It'll give you quiet time to rest and heal - and them some distractions instead of held up in a room waiting on you. There's so many beautiful shops, scenery, gorgeous

I have the suite with the captain's room (the largest room they have, I took it mainly because my mom wanted an actual bed to herself while she hangs around while I recover, the rest of the rooms have either pull/fold outs) booked at the Gaia right now for a stay in early October while I recover from my own vaginoplasty.

I'll let you know how it goes and I might even consider one of those experience posts considering the last recollection/mcginn experience on this site is like 2 years old at this point.
