Title: Hey all
Post by: Majestic on May 04, 2015, 10:59:50 PM
Hello everyone.  I'm not quite sure I belong here, I've had gender dysphoria (I'm FTM) since as long as I can remember, but a therapist I saw told me it was just depression and not real dysphoria.  That was years ago and I've tried to force myself to be a girl, but it just doesn't fit.  I don't feel like I am a girl, but I don't know if it's just the depression like the therapist said or real dysphoria.  Either way, I'm here now after lurking for a long time.  My name's Aaron and I'm 23.  I'm hoping to find some people to talk to or maybe even friends.  :)  Maybe I can help out too, but I've been out of the transgender community for a while now.  So, I'm hoping I can fit in!

Hi, Welcome to Susan's Majestic, sorry to hear that your earlier diagnosis did not match clearly how you feel and are! Maybe worth finding a good Gender Therapist again and start that process again.

But I can say you are definately not alone and amongst many like spirited souls here, you'll get the support and friendship you need here.

Lovely to have you onboard, look forward to seeing you around the forums...

Hi Aaron and welcome to Susan's. Maybe time to see out another therapist. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't dysphoria. If another therapist says it isn't, ask, ok, how do I cope with this then? When I came out to my therapist I told her, I'm female but stuck living as a male for now, what can I do to cope? And she had several very constructive suggestions. In my mind, a therapist is there to help you with what you have need of, i.e. depression amd/or dysphoria.

Anyway, you are among friends and like-minded people here and we're glad you found us.

Hugs,

Welcome Aaron, if you have been lurking a while then you have likely seen posts from others that recognize not all therapists are therapeutic, well trained or without their own biases.  I tried therapy back in the 80s when transgender wasn't on anyones radar and those guys felt I was a sissy gay person.  I am queer and bi/pan sexual but, as we know, that is orientation and behavior rather than gender identity.  I agree that another therapist may help and ultimately it is your call.  Best to you on this path forward.
