UPDATE: The Fairfax County Public Schools School Board voted Thursday night to add "gender identity" to its nondiscrimination policy in spite of massive opposition from parents and the area's religious community.

Is anyone else concerned about having a "vetting process" that students go through when they claim they are transgender? Strong willed kids will find their way through, but will the average transgender 6-year-old be able to look hostile adults in the eye and answer questions about their gender?

As for a "vetting process," at this time no. This is a whole new area opening up. Others in the story were also complaining about no regulations. The Board JUST approved the change, now they have to figure out how to make it work, It would be nice if somehow there was a way to wave a magic wand and everything would be perfect, but we live in an imperfect world and all in all, this is a huge step forward. Perhaps this will lead to more acceptance of transgender children and the bullying and suicides will stop.
