Title: My mom is going to come out for me on Facebook
Post by: perrystephens on May 17, 2015, 12:37:02 PM
I haven't had a Facebook in a while so I told my mom to just make a post on hers basically informing everyone but she doesn't know how to word it and neither do I honestly. Does this work? "(My birth name here) will be using he/him/his pronouns from this point forward and the name Perry." It sounds really formal and I don't know if it makes it clear that I want people to view m as a man, but I don't want to make a big deal of it. Any suggestions on how to word it better? I'm not good with words.

Hey Perry, That sounds like it would work. Maybe she could add a word of support? Something like "We fully support our son in this matter.  Please join us in wishing him the best for his bright future."

Okay, so I'm not being that good with words today, either.  But maybe that is something to work with.

That sounds like it should work just fine. If you want to make it more informal:

"Just to keep everyone in the loop, (birth name) is now going by Perry, and we are referring to him with male pronouns such as he/him/his. We support him and hope that you will as well. If you have any questions, please let me know."
