Title: Nailed it! Your best look?
Post by: Ms Grace on May 19, 2015, 07:50:11 PM
So I was thinking that for many of us we probably have a favourite look - one that works best for us, that we know we pass well when dressed that way.

For me I found that dressing for socialising was by far the easiest since I could go as girly as I wanted. Then dressing for work took more effort since you can't really wear the same thing twice in a week (preferably at least not for at least ten days!!) and one really needs to tone down the glam factor. Dressing casual and passing was by far the hardest for me, both in terms of success and building up the nerve. When I first tried to transition I would always fail at passing, would get misgendered nine time out of ten, it was pretty depressing since at my heart I'm a casual person. Much to my happiness I have been able to nail casual for some months now... but there's "pretty casual" and "just chuck anything on" casual... and I believe I have finally succeeded with the latter. Based on my recent experience at a gym I apparently need to work on sports casual... but that is probably even harder still!

What's your best style? When do you nail it? Where do you need to do some work?

I have casual nailed (my workplace is casual so all of my clothes are casual - skinny jeans and nice tops). In about two weeks I am going to an event that has been described as "cocktail casual" so i've got to figure out what that means

I'm a little nervous but I think it will work out ok.

I think I look best after everyone else has had several drinks.

Excellent response. I'm gonna have to go with Jill on this one.

At work, it's cold, so always turtlenecks or button up blouses, so no one sees my undershirt. Down below, slacks or a skirt and stockings.

Casual, skirts just above the knee in summer and skinny jeans in the winter. And knee high boots every chance I get.

I love boots generally, but really love the knee highs!

I have gotten fairly good at casual. I don't party. And for me "buisness" clothes mean workwear/clothing I don't mind messing up with paint and gypsum dust. We'll see how I do early in June when the museum I work for will be having another exhibition opening. Some folks dress up a bit, some don't. I usually don't attend but I would sure like to. I'd love to wear a nice dress or something...

I don't know, I'm a lazy beatnik...

Casual is the one I have concentrated on since my work really requires that I'm dressed more comfortably to do my job. As a result I haven't fully worked much on the others. For those reasons i would assume that some work may be needed if nothing just for the fact I haven't dealt with those areas. Hugs

I don't have much opportunity to work on anything but casual, but I did vote that I'm still working on everything. I will say that most of the time that I get a "Yes, ma'am" I'm wearing my (quite long) hair down instead of in a ponytail.

I need a new category!

Sporty, I cycle to work every day so I wear sporty things and that's what I'm most comfortable in :)

casual cause its easiest for me and have mostly casual stuff but I guess party or clubby stuff could be easier cause I can wear more makeup and dresses which show off my curves but I do have to be careful cause a lot of those outfits require a lot of cleavage and although im great in the butt, hip and waist department I don't really have cleavage and can only make a little with tape lol

Since I am not full-time, I dress casual all the time and I have quite clear picture of what works and what does not. When dressed casual, I can pass pretty much everywhere (apart from work where half of co-workers still have no idea). Since I do not socialise or go partying, I dont have any specific outfits for that. As far as "professional look" goes, I would be supposed to wear a kind of suit/power suit in those occassions which usually delivers quite curious outcomes and funny looks :D.

I do like being an office girl.

Blouse, pencil skirt, sheer hose, soft leather heels, earrings, fluffy hair, addict by dior.

I am a foxy little thing at work! :~D

mine tends to be casual. I work the navy veteran soccer mom look, along with the college student who doesn't care look XD.  Rolled up sweatpants or capris and off the shoulder T-shirts all the way almost everyday. and flipflops XD

Really nice to see so many going for the casual/natural/down to earth look.

I was including sporty in the cadual realm but yeah, me too. I also cycle to work and I buy a bunch of my clothes from outdoor retailers.

I drive this type of bike

and it does not require anything sporty (in fact, casual looks much better than sporty when cycling Gazelle). Stuff which I usually wear is leather loafers/mocasins, female cut jeans (capris during summer), H&M female top, male blue denim shirt with rolled up sleeves or H&M F hoodie, plus H&M F sleeveless vest when it gets too chilly. Add blue denim backpack and I am good to go ;).

Nice. I don't have any pics but my bike is an early '80s Fuji racing frame that I have converted to a single speed freewheel. I do manual work so my shoes tend to be trail running shoes. They are the best for all the walking I do as well as the other assorted activities. I love capris by the way, they are my go to when shorts won't work. As a guy one of the ways I stayed sane was converting all of my pants to capri length. Often with scissors, sometimes just rolling them up. People just thought it was an odd fashion quirk. My tops are mix of t shirts, jogging tops, tanks and t shirts that I have altered into punk style tanks. For the wet weather I have a lovely purple/pink raincoat.

I am at my best when wearing sandals ( no socks LOL, have to mention this because I live near Seattle), Capri's, bra+cami+3/4 sleeve tunic, and a medium necklace (not too chunky, but not a thin one either).

In the summer I ditch the tunic and go either bikini top or cami.

I only pass from the neck down, and that's ok by me.
