Title: Just offered a job - yay!

I was made redundant from my job of 16 years back in January - it was a nice payout but I obviously couldn't live off it forever so I have been looking for a suitable replacement ever since. Out of about 16 applications I landed six interviews and now I've been offered a job from an interview I had on Friday. Yay!
I feel very proud of this achievement and am quite excited at the moment!
I found that applying "as a woman" actually gave me more confidence in the interviews and (to me, anyway) a greater rapport than I'd ever had before. Interesting experience.
So next week I start a job where no one knew dude-me... no more accidental misgenderings! ;D

I'm grinning ear to ear (quite an accomplishment, since I inherited my father's prominent ears).
You rock! And you still have a lot left from your severance package, yes?

Well done Grace .I expect that getting back into work will also help Your self esteem and confidence .I find working as a Woman so much better than working as a DUDE woman are friendlier and more Open and its wonderful not to have to posture and compete with the horrible Macho work ethics .You are judged on You rather than how tough or Macho you come over to with Your Peers.

Transition did wonders for my confidence in the classroom. I've even been able to do some academic conferences. The relief of not having my old voice when I read my papers is immeasurable. I also did a couple of job interviews post-transition--twenty-five years after my previous job interview--and felt so much more natural. There's no place like home.

Congratulations Grace :) That is really great news.
I remember when I got my first job as a woman I sat down and cried because I was so overcome with emotion. Happy tears, but there was no way I could hold them in.

Thanks folks!
I'll be the editor for a magazine published by a state based health NGO. Pretty much what I was doing in my previous job but hopefully a lot less stressful based on the parameters.
Fortunately I've only ever worked in female dominated jobs, this one's no different - progressive and not big on macho ethos.
Right, and I think the thing is that being able to works as the gender you identify as does wonders for self esteem and confidence regardless of whether you have transitioned to male or female. It sure did for me when I transitioned.
oh yeah, at least three quarters of it... been very frugal these last four months. ;D

Time to stop loafing around and get back to work Grace..
Been there myself so know how good it feels to get one.
Took me 10 months. Had 3 months unwinding from a bad job and the Xmas and no jobs for 3 months.
Had 3 offers all at once. Typical.
I was told I got one before I made it home from the interview!

Grace-
I'm so glad that you weathered the storm and got the new job! As others have said going to work as a female is wayyyyyy different than going to work as a male. You get to use your interpersonal skills and your softer forms of persuasion to get things done rather than using male force and domination; you get to express your true self; and you are treated entirely differently by people. Women relate openly to you and guys pull back from you and the relationship with them becomes a more formal/respectful one. The change suits me perfectly and i'm sure it will suit you as well.
Of course we require a full report from you after your first full day on the job! :police:

Grace,
That is so fantastic. Since I am pretty new here, I don't know you well. However, you are one of the folks that had some great things to say helping me through some tough times. I feel as though you very much deserve it. It must be such a relief and reassuring.
Good luck. I hope it goes very well. Cindy may be right. Sounds like shopping would be a good idea.

Since I transitioned at my previous workplace I already have nine months on the job girl experience. And yeah, it is great! Fortunately it wasn't a macho workplace, mostly women anyway and the guys were all pleasant enough. I think the only place I've ever worked with any degree of macho was my first job, that was a government/hospital pay department and there a number of hyper macho dudes. I avoided them and befriended the women and the nice quiet guys. Never been interested in trying to do fake macho to fit in with those other guys.

About 100 meters from Central... so almost back where I just spent the last 16 years!

Grace, that's fantastic! You deserve that trip to the mall, and now you can relax -- won't it be nice NOT to have to work as hard as you have over the past few months? There is no harder work than job-hunting.
There's a really bad joke in there somewhere, but... let's not go there.
