Title: We don't treat those
Post by: Ravenna on June 10, 2015, 02:14:27 PM
Finally got a letter from my therapist
Got a referral from my doc even tho I was super nervous
finally called the only doctors near me that take my cheap insurance
When I asked the person on the phone if the doctors trear trans patients
She put me on hold for maybe literally
3 seconds before saying "sorry we don't treat those"
..... But that's fine..my bulimia will take care of my body issues just fine

Oof

"Those"? Objectification: ugh.

Keep calling around, it is worth your time- even if it's a bit of a trek! You will find it.

Also good to note. Most doctors are willing to discount you if you come in as a cash patient. Works every time for me. Doctors hate dealing with insurance. Just ask for the cash patient discount ;)

I know it can seem like a needle in haystack but keep searching around. It's possible your therapist or a local support group might know of someone who does treat transgendered patients in your area. I was almost faced with that impossible search for a primary care doctor due to my trans status when I first came out and told my previous PCP. Good luck and Hugs.
