Okay so I talked to my Air Force therapist at the beginning of the week for the first time. I had read a lot of scary articles online about how if even you told your therapist or a Chaplin even that you were transgender in the Active military that they would turn you in. Now maybe I am missing part of those stories, perhaps those individuals were getting HRT without the governments knowledge, or what, but my therapist told me that there is no way that they would turn someone in who is coming in to talk about being transgender. So i guess the two things that this could be is that I have been duped, maybe by them not knowing all of the rules. or perhaps the rules have changed since those articles have been written. (Knowing the military that may be the case)  I made sure to ask the question beforehand when they asked me if I had any questions about privacy, which may be a smart thing to do just to cover your own butt. And I cannot speak for Guard or Reserve units.

In any case I just want to put it out there to others that may be questioning if they can talk to their on base therapists about being transgender, as long as i have'nt been lied to, which is highly unlikely, that it is okay to talk to them.

I thought if you had official therapist in the clinics, then they could if they deem it necessary that it would jeopardize yourself, and that of your mission. But otherwise the chaplain is confidential between yourself and the chaplain. If you talk to him or her it is strictly just that. Only, and if only you give the authority, will they disclaim the information to your command or higher. But that is totally up to you.

Do you have any sort of secret, or top secret clearance?

Lol no I am maintenance I don't need any of that kind of clearance. From the sound of the new guidance that I have been able to find it's only if you are clinically diagnosed with body disphoria. And of course I'm not going to get involved with the clinical until I am done with the military.

Then I so have myself in a major pickle. Being IT, radio repair and having a tier two secret clearance, they may as well had just given me a top secret.
But yeah, until the protections, it's either I leave the army, or protections happen, either which way, I'm gonna choose my happiness over the military any day.
Just the benefits right now are amazing. I have a dentist appointment on Monday and am getting two root canals done, and a filling, if I need a prescription, it'll all be fully paid for.

Find out if you will receive VA benefits before you get out because I hear they will pay for atleast the HRT

I hear times are changing.  I am friends with some trans airwomen/airmen on facebook.  One said unless she starts HRT they will start a med board.  She said the paperwork was on her CC desk.  I am also Maintenance, Ive been doing this for over 15 years.  So I am too close to retirement to take any chances.

I would still have another 13 years before retirement. There is way I can endure maintenance in the air force for that long. And yes times are changing but it's the people who end up taking the longest to change and accept change as I can tell even with the repeal of DADT there is still a majority of people who don't realize that things are different. having to go to work the day after Caitlyn Jenner's vanity fair cover came out proved to me the true viewpoints of the populace of the maintenance world, and it's not very positive and to come out in an environment like that would be the worst thing I could for myself.

When I had a job that I needed a security clearance on, the question was could this information be used to blackmail you. If it could then a security clearance was out of the question. If not, then you can have the security clearance. If the military knows about you, blackmail wouldn't be possible.
