Title: Changing gender marker on Birth Certificate

If your state says you have to have undergone medical procedure to change your gender on your birth certificate how much medical procedure do you think they mean? They don't specify. Does that just mean taking testosterone and passing as male for example, or having had top and bottom surgery?

It's state-specific, you'd have to dig into Virginia's laws specifically to find out. In Oregon, they had to pass new legislature/an amendment (I can't remember which) that recognised HRT as 'medical procedure' enough to get a court-recognised change of sex. My judge was happy with that and as soon as he received an affidavit from my doctor stating that I'd been on T, he granted the change.

I'm hoping that when it comes time for me that HRT will be enough in the state of Virginia too.

Hopefully! Otherwise that'd be a pain in the rear, especially if you're trying to make all your documents consistent. That's why I went through the trouble, otherwise I would have just done the separate forms for social security and driver's license and just waived the rest. I think it was worth it, though.  :)

I'll probably change my name way before my gender marker changes. So I'll just be a legal female with my man's name.
