I've been seeing my doctor and she does not have wide knowledge in terms of HRT and trans-related topics.
I started HRT yesterday, however, she prescribed me premarin conjugated estrogen. She said about this pill how the max dosage is a certain amount? I believe but while i was researching, I saw that this dosage is for cis-women and for transgender they would need a different dosage, which i think is horrific besides all the bad things about this estrogen. I sent her email regarding to switch my prescription to bio-identical estrogen. On the side note, I am 19 years old and just starting HRT! will this be ok to carry on with this doctor who seems to not have lot of knowledge?? It is extremely hard to find any doc in this area since the waiting list is ridiculously long.

Well its up to you... if you want to work with this doctor or look for another...
there might be an lgbt center, where it could be possible to ask for referrals..
and there might be endos listed...

Sorry but before I clicked on the thread I thought it had to do something with Doctor Who. And I was thinking "what does Doctor Who - Capaldi has to do with transgender issues?".

I am a bit sorry for making fun of your topic, but it was just too good and I could not resist ;-)

If your doctor does not have experience with trans issues and is not willing to learn, you should bite it and find someone else. You might however try and help your current doctor first by finding solid information to aid them, but if they won't listen, it is your decision whether you want to stick with them.
My endo prescribes only bioidentical estradiol and bioidentical progesterone, and they have many trans patients and many years of experience.

Having had both Dr.s who were unfamiliar with T in transgenders and one who is, I'd say that having a Dr. who is familiar  is just a better bet. It doesn't matter whether you are a transwoman or a transman, our needs are a little different than the cis men and women they normally treat. No disrespect to your current Dr., its just a matter of knowing what a transgender expects and needs.

Many physicians at LGBTQ-focused clinics are happy to speak with doctors who are new to prescribing HRT. I think physicians at those clinics realize that only a few cities have the ability to support such a specialty clinic, so they try to share as much of their knowledge with physicians who might be in smaller towns, states, etc. You could look for the contact info a few different LGBTQ clinics and share that with your physician. There is the Fenway Clinic in Boston and the Howard Brown Clinic in Chicago. I know there are more clinics that just those two, but that's all that is coming to mind right now.

I'm going to agree with other folks here and say that it'd be best to start looking for another, more trans-experienced doctor, but if that doesn't seem like a viable option, the other would be to try and have another doctor educate them on HRT and such. A doctor only experienced with cis patients isn't going to know what exactly to look for in trans patients and how to maintain their levels properly (and safely). If nothing else, I would definitely bring your concerns up with your doctor, so they're made aware of their ignorance; perhaps they'll try educating themselves!
