Title: Is this a bad reaction to a patch test for IPL?
Post by: RobynB on June 14, 2015, 10:51:17 AM
Hi everyone,

So a week after my patch test for laser hair removal I seem to be breaking out or reacting badly. It was ok for a few days after with mild redness but I just noticed yesterday that it was really starting to come up. It's not painful or itchy or anything. I have the first full session booked for Wednesday but I'm now really worried that I'll end up with permanent scarring.

Can anyone tell me is this a normal reaction? I do have skin problems with acne breakouts regularly on my forehead but nothing like this and never in a perfect rectangle!

Thanks,

Robyn

Hi Robyn, welcome to Susan's. I don't recall having occur several days later. I generally get what reaction I will at first, but others may have different experiences. I look forward to seeing you around the forums. Good luck and Hugs
Mariah

Thanks for the welcome Mariah. And I need luck and hugs in equal measure just now :(

Can I ask did you get marks like this at all? I know everyone is different and I happen to have very bad skin so I might just be unlucky with the genetic draw.

I spoke to a dermatologist who also does laser hair removal and she said it was likely set a little too high for my sensitive skin but should otherwise be fine.

Looking at all that stubble and just my skin in general is really hard. Hormones start tomorrow and laser starts on Wednesday. I really hope I start to feel happier with my face. It just upsets me right now.

Before you know it you will be happy with it, but it does take time. Hugs

That is what it working looks like to me. When I got laser, they kept the intensity down to where it didn't hurt except in one key area on the front of my chin. I had none of those marks. I still have full hair growth.
I did get a few tiny dots on the sides of my cheeks similar to this but a lot less intense. That is the only hair that went away. The red around the hair sites shows signs of the hair having burned and the skin adapting to the loss of one of it's follicular friends.
