Title: At last...
Post by: Alexis-Sophie on July 01, 2015, 09:33:38 AM
So I finally plucked up the courage to talk to my GP... at some length too. Thankfully she was supportive and not judgemental - unlike myself - I've been beating myself up for the best part of 40 years, I guess suffering the same fears and denials so many of us do.

So it's a relief to finally be doing something vaguely official, to make the first tentative steps towards transition. I'm elated and nervous - guess I've got a lot to learn.

Anyway I thought I'd introduce myself here, I've been lurking for long enough, and hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more of me around in the future.

Also if anyone is near Oxford in the UK, and extra special hello as there's a slight chance you may know me already.

Alexis

Welcome to Susan's Alexis

Lovely to have you join us...

FWIW It took me 46 'ish years to approach and come out to DR... well apart from telling the family Dr in London back when I was an asthmatic kid in the fifties... "don't be concerned, he'll grow out of it" was the retort! Oh how I hated him, at the time! But he was so wrong, however, it just pushed me to hide the suffering for all those years!

Love Oxfordshire, well the whole Cotswolds area, I lived in London, but travelled often to the west and south west... even to some of the secret establishments around that corridor.

Well as you are not lurking anymore I look forward to seeing you around the forum's and good luck with your journey.

Thanks everyone, I have had some very bad history with doctors and still have the scars to show it (for everyone to see) - so it felt like a massive step to me. Still they were way better than I expected, understanding and supportive which left me feeling much happier after it all.

Oxfordshire is lovely, but perhaps a little too conservative (in both senses) and tame for my taste. I sort of washed up here after a decade in London and a couple of years in Shropshire... but I'm originally a farm girl from the Dark Peak and I still miss the wildness of moors, the rain, and the cold wind.  :)
