A woman endorsed by the Greens is attempting to become the nation's first transgender federal politician.
A Tasmanian woman will attempt to become the nation's first transgender federal politician after being endorsed by the Greens.

Transgender advocate Martine Delaney will stand for the suburban Hobart seat of Franklin, now held by Labor's only Tasmanian federal Lower House representative, Julie Collins.

Ms Delaney, who was born male and named Martin has undergone reassignment surgery.

She has spoken publicly about her life and is inspired to enter politics to campaign for a more equal society.

'I'm overwhelmingly disillusioned with what's happening in this country at the moment and felt I needed to do something more than what I've been doing,' she told News Corp.

Don't know why her male name or GRS status is relevant but that's News Corps for you...
