Anyone smiting a person in a topic which has been locked by Forum staff will have the smite returned to them. Retaliatory smites will be returned and doubled.

If a member feels they have been unfairly treated they should contact Susan or Cindy and we shall investigate and deal with the issue.

Well if I may say a word concerning smiting...

I have seen a member deleting their account after they have been smited....
imo they were quite knowledgable concerning operation techniques...
in my opinion it creates a lot of negative energy... people on all sides get angry and upset...

maybe it would be possible to send a personal message instead, that a certain behaviour is not nice... went too far... and to please curb it down...
if reminded imo many people know themselves...
what I have seen is like the heat of the moment multiplied a few times... with reaction and counter reaction...
not necessary imo... maybe a reminder that something went too far would do ?


Well in some situations an attitude of standing a bit above it all might be helpful sometimes... and help defuse emotions...

The last smite I received (ironically, I also got +1 for the same post) was very quite superficial - the person clearly did not understood what I was trying to say (and that was a quote, btw) and took it way too much emotional when it was never designed to. I report my own post to mods so they could deliver their own impartial opinion but never got any reply on that.

Somebody pressed the red thumbs down button to the left of your post. It's the same as a not liking a post but a thumbs up or down vote should be made when you have a strong like or strong dislike for a post.

I have difficulty understanding how returning and doubling a smite is not, in itself, retaliation. LOL
Seriously though, I believe that staff sets the tone with regards to smiting. All else follows.

Also, I thought only mods could smite in a locked topic anyway?

Anyone still can regardless of it being locked.  :police: I should note and caution everyone that this policy is not open for debate. We are more than happy to respond to questions, but policies are not open for debate. Please remember to keep TOS 2 in mind. If you think that a smite you received isn't appropriate then please let us know so it can be looked into. Thanks

I have never smitten anyone. I am not God. Even when I was a global moderator here, I found that a PM was all that was usually necessary to get people to edit their posts. I suggest that rather than smite someone for an offensive post, it would be preferable to use that little link to the lower right that says "Report to Moderator." The moderators usually do not act alone. Rather, they work together to come up with the right solution.

With that said, and I mean this in the most positive way, HERE, Susan IS God. If you get a warning from her, pay heed. She's been hosting this site for 20 years or so. I've found it the most positive and welcoming place on the net for transgender support, resources, and chat. She IS the reason why you all feel at home and feel like you can open your very soul to perfect strangers.

Considering this topic has gone more into people either explaining why they like/ don't like or use/ don't use and was never intended for that purpose. It's nice to hear the difference sides and I enjoyed reading everyone's remarks, but having said that policy is policy and as a moderator I'm expected to smite when deemed necessary. I have only done so twice since becoming a mod and have probably given out more positive Karma then anyone else and on that note Thread locked.

If you receive a smite that you feel was unjust, you can report the post and listing the reason as the reputation given on it. Please detail exactly why you feel it was invalid (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,18960.0.html).
