Hey guys,

Just fancied quickly writing in here as this morning I will be going to my GP to tell them I'm trans, I'm bricking it but excited at the same time. Hoping it all goes well and that they understand.

My heart is beating out of my chest!!

Ah it went so well! Honestly couldn't have asked for it to gone any better. The doctor was super supportive, she pretty much said straight away "oh we have a clinic we refer the patients to" so was straight on it! I explained that I was nervous about the GP because I've heard horror stories and she was like well you'll be completely fine here etc, she was quite surprised to hear that people had had bad experiences with GPs. And I told her about my plans to go private to the ball rolling and she was very positive about setting up shared care but just needed to check what the deal was with her boss. But all in all, really successful!

I felt a massive buzz after and I'm very proud of myself, I think I managed to articulate well enough and didn't get all emotional (not that it's a bad thing but I think it's easier to stay objective and it's hard to hear words through crying!), I was nervous but the nerves subsided enough after I felt comfortable. But yeah I'm feeling good, excited at the prospect of finally being on some sort of path and I think it's going to make it a lot easier and give me more confidence in telling my boss!

Well done, that's great! I went through the same thing a few weeks ago - I went to ask my GP if he'd want to set up shared care with me so that I could go private for a bit, and he said he'd be more than happy to. Big rush afterwards, I was smiling the whole day!

That's a big deal! I remember how nervous I was to tell my doc. I'm pleased it went so well for you.

Thanks for all the kind words guys! So my doctor called me back and said that she could only refer to the GIC if the practice could confirm that they would fund it.. I looked it up and I think it's to do with PCTs and stuff? Apparently I'm the first person in my borough to ask for shared care and I think general trans stuff.

I'm confident in my GP as she seems very proactive and on my side but I'm a little worried that I might not be able to get funding because of being such a rare case and it's a massive borough. Has anyone had this problem?

As for your question above, you knew I have to wait until the first working day of next month, which is August, so I can't answer that question, so sorry mate.

Anyway, I'm already at the Newbie stage, so maybe I'll add u when you're already a newbie then?
