"A Cartoon Network show has become the first on its network to confirm two of its lead characters are in a lesbian couple.
Steven Universe is the story of a boy that helps protect the universe with his gem powers alongside his three female sister/mother role models and superheroes Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl."

Note: The characters are "nonbinary femme presenting lesbians"

This is one of my favorite shows actually.

There is this concept in the show called "fusion" when two or more gem characters dance and become one being. Steven, the main character, fuses with Connie, a girl he likes and they become a non-binary individual. Characters respond positively to them and no one acts like it's wrong. At one point Steven's dad catches them when they accidently fuse, but he doesn't get mad at all. A little surprised, but that's mostly for lore reasons than anything else.

If you want a positive, colourful, musical show, this is it.

If they were to add a trans character that isn't NB I would not be shocked.

I don't even watch the show, but from what I've seen it's really great and progressive. Hope to hear more stories like this and see more shows like this in the future.

One of my other favorite things about this show is, as someone mentioned, the episode where the two young protagonists, Steven and Connie, accidentally fuse. The result is a non-binary entity named Stevonnie whose appearance and pronouns are non-binary, and who spends the entire episode stunning people with their striking body features, height, long hair, and beauty. All of this from a non-binary character with both male and female features.

That was seriously one of the most amazing things I've ever seen, seeing a character with a non-binary appearance being celebrated for their beauty.

And in fact, EVERY character in this show is celebrated for being beautiful and body-positive. The thin waify character is beautiful and elegant, the strong beefy confident leader woman is shown positively, the large motherly overweight character is shown as beautiful and positive, the non-binary character is beautiful, the long-haired balding male character is shown as being cute and desirable. It's just such a positive show without a mean bone in its body, and still manages to have some of the greatest emotional depth and character drama of any cartoon that I've seen.

I'm a huge fan, in case it's not obvious. :P
