Title: My First Therapy Session
Post by: SarahMarie1987 on August 01, 2015, 12:36:25 PM
I want to thank everyone who replied to my post about needing kind words. Those really did help ease my mind when it came time for the appointment. To be honest though, I did consider bolting before the session starting. I am glad I didn't! Because my therapist is really really good. She was great with using the words that I do for describing my feelings and how I repress. She was not thrown by any gender or trans issues. She wanted to know what I felt about it (all the attention and press coverage about trans people in the last few months). So I am really glad that I found. I was worried because the other therapists I called/e-mailed never got back to me. But it feels like it was meant to be.

The only real issue is paying for the session. I'll be paying out of pocket right now, since my job doesn't offer health coverage and she doesn't take the state insurance I do have. But I think I could talk about a reduced fee or meeting twice a month, so I can save up a little between visits.

You might consider several sessions a week apart at first to get the groundwork down and then switch to every other week. Finding a therapist that you are comfortable with is important because the only way you make progress is to get everything out on the table. That is hard to do with a therapist you are uncomfortable with.
