When you're reviewing conduct from years earlier, the issue is not what was said then, but where the person is now. Has he repudiated his earlier conduct? Apologized? Made amends? Or does he stand by his conduct back then? The article doesn't talk about this, but it's impossible to know how much of a problem this is without that information.
