Title: what day should 9/11 be called?
Post by: katia on September 11, 2007, 06:50:15 AM
December 25 is Christmas Day. July 4 is Independence Day.  January 1 is New Year's Day.  What should we call 9/11?

today is 9/11 btw. :)

If we named every date for a tragedy that happened, every day would be tragedy day.

We shouldn't name it anything.

Thank you for asking.

Not to make light of an American tragedy, but I'm not American so I don't think it should be marked as anything.

Just call it 9/11. I don't think you need any other reminder.

I would agree, I dont think it needs a name.

But since humor seems to be prevalant, how about

"Wake up and smell the maple nut cruch" Day

The attack day on Pearl Harbor doesn't have a name.  The days atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki don't have names.

I think, generally, people try to think of positive things when naming a day, like a famous person's birthday:

Martin Luther King Day, January 15
Lincoln's birthday (aka President's Day), Feb. 12
Washington's birthday, Feb. 22
Christ-mas, Dec. 25

I've always thought "9/11" is an appropriate name because the numbers, "11," remind me in appearance, physically, of the two towers.

I think 9/11 will do and not be a stick in the mud, but there were over 3000 people, not just Americans, lost their lives on that day. And a day of remembrance is appropriate for the innocent.

Awakenings Day.  The day when we finally woke up from our delusion and realized that this country was not as safe as everyone thought. :(  This day brings horrible memories.  Hopefully nothing of this nature will ever happen again...  >:(

Well, ya, it actually does.  It's called Pearl Harbor Day.

I don't think anyone's going to give up calling it 9/11 because it's so close to 911.  In a decade or so it may be celebrated in memory of first responders who have died.

When we had our attack over here in England on the tubes 7th of july nothing is ever reminded this year I went to Live Earth on the 7th of July and used the Tubes there was no reminders or anything of the tragedy... I guess diffrent places handle it diffrently..

Please dont think I am trying to compare what happened on 9/11 with what happened with July the 7th I am just using them as an example

Here in the states we tend to turn everything into a media event whenever possible.  The terrorists knew that and capitalized on it.  Without film of the towers falling played over and over thousands of time, there would have been no wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

well, as a matter of fact 9/11 is called [Patriot Day] and has been for the past 6 years now. patriot day is designated in memory of the nearly three thousand who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks; yet, most of us refer to the day as "Nine-Eleven (9/11)", "September 11th", or some variation thereof.

I was so impressed when the people of South Africa decided to let the past be the past, forgive the perpetrators, and move on.

The only way to stop the cycle of war and terror is for one side to take the higher ground, learn what is pissing off the other, apologize, and make peace.

This is the only way to stop the vile anger, vengeance, and violence.

It should be called 11/9 day to be in a sensible date format.   >:D

IMO that's asking for too much, Cindi.  :-\  Personally I could never forgive nor forget such heinous atrocities from anyone, but again that's just me, imperfect Tink.
