Title: Could I be Experiencing Height Loss?
Post by: Jasper93 on August 09, 2015, 05:50:39 PM
Hi everyone,

So, I was measuring my height today, which I haven't done since right after initiating hrt, and the tape said 5 ft. 8.5.  I measured four more times because I was in denial about potentially being that short, and the tape consistently read 5 ft. 8.5 or 5 ft. 8.75. The thing is, when I last measured my height - also without shoes - my height came out as 5 ft. 9.75; I measured obsessively back then too.

Has anyone ever heard of estrogen shrinking an mtf's height before?

I have also experienced changes that are undeniable, but also unexpected, like developing a very thick and dark brown penile raphe, as well as my Adam's apple effectively disappearing...

Thoughts?

I grew a quarter of an inch. What happened is I was slouching at the first measurement and the next 20 years latter I was standing correctly.
It is possible the cartilage is settling and you may be a bit taller in the morning than in the evening. The danger would be if you are losing calcium from you bones. You might want to mention this to you doctor,
As for you Adam's apple, that could be due to adding fat on your neck. Mine was far to large and I don't gain weight in that area so surgery was the only way to remove it.

I used to be 5'9.5", consistently measured. Now, I'm just barely 5'8" when i stretch as hard as I can, so I do believe that some of us lose height.

Bones won't shrink but your posture can change and this has a significant effect on overall height.

Thanks. At what point in your transition did you discern that you've shrunk 1.5 inches in height?

I'm almost entirely positive that this perceived height loss on my end doesn't stem from postural changes, as I stood very straight for both trials. I wasn't even anticipating height loss. When I realized at first that I was considered tall, I was just like, "Well, ->-bleeped-<-. I'll do high fashion or something."

I've lost a good three inches - but most of that is probably due to age (I'm 69).

It definitely can happen. I've lost about an inch.

To be fair, as Ms. Grace says, I think that's 95% posture; if I straighten up so hard that it hurts, I get most of that inch back. However, my personal opinion is that if I can't be any taller without stretching painfully into a position I can only hold for a minute or so, this *is* effectively my real height now. :)

(I believe it's because butt and thigh growth have changed my center of gravity and tilted my pelvis in a more feminine way, which curves my spine a bit more than it used to.)

Well,
I seem to have lost half an inch. But interestingly I have also noticed that my body shape now has a definite S- Curve to it looking side on with my breasts very obvious and quite perky and my buttocks have become quite rounded and added about 2  inches (also in high heels) my centre of gravity seems yo have changed a bit). A girlfriend told me its because of my  bigger bum and the fact that my high heels are forcing me to have proper posture. I just wish that I had some hips - none evident to date!

I have lost an inch and a half in a little over 5 months of HRT.  I noticed my kids were looking taller.  I then did a measurement and I was shorter.  I have been consistently 6'2" for 30 years I an now 6' 1/2".  I don't mind the loss at all...come on 5'11"....

I started out at 6ft 2 and I'm now 5ft 11 twenty four years later.  Some of this is certainly due to my more femme posture, but a good inch and half at least has to be down to the effects of HRT.

I was just thinking about this! I saw my uncle today who is in his 50s and he's about 5"10" and been that way since I stopped growing like 10 years ago. Once I looked down to him and my feet were bigger too. Now My shoes are actually smaller than his and we are about the same height.

I was 6ft now 5'10 or 5'11, I thought men have more cartilage to perform manly acts like wrestling bears.

I've become slightly taller actually.. It seems like the estrogen has helped me fully grow, but then again I'm only 21. I'm about 182 cm which is 6ft.

It's definitely posture. Bones don't shrink and if they are you have serious problems. I started at 5'8" and I'm 5'6" now. How did I find out? When I went to the dr, they measured me. The PA said,"5'6" just barely so I will put 5'6"." I said, um, excuse me? I'm 5'8". Nope they were right.

This thread gives my 6'2 frame some hope.

After 8 months of HRT, I've shrunk exactly 1 cm (0.4") to measure 5'7" even.  I measured myself standing straight against the same wall, and marked it where I had marked it before, and it was much lower.  A pretty big surprise to me I wasn't expecting.

I agree 100% with this.

At my tallest I was 5'10". I used to be in a lot better shape and played hoops all the time and my leg muscles were probably twice the size they are now. Years of blessed HRT whittled away muscle and whatever else was there. Currently I'm 5'8" maybe even shorter, as now I notice I'm closer in height to average women.
