I had to have an MRI so I get to the hospital and wait my turn . I get called in to get blood drawn before the MRI and the nurse doing the blood sees me and asks if I'm trans and I said yes then she said that she was trans. I'm really not sure which way she was going or coming from because I felt it to awkward for me to ask because nobody's ever done that to me before. She was presenting female but I couldn't tell whether she was MTF or beginning FTM . I think she was pre T though , but a curious experience. She asked me what pronouns I prefer , which no one has ever done before, quite cool. We talked about the problems she was having with her transition in the hospital setting and she said she knew about Susan's and I told her aobut encounters with other work related problems that come up on Susan's. Quite a fun blood draw. She said she was going to study to be an Endo. The pronouns I'm using are just because the way she was presenting so forgive me if I'm confused.

Ahem! - Please forgive me, but if studying to be an Endocrinologist that certainly wasn't a nurse - it was a Medical Student AKA student doctor.
It happens all the time - people see a woman and read us as nurses, I even had a consultant who should have known better do it to me the other day, I corrected him rather frostily where I might have let it slide from a patient, but for a woman doctor (even a trainee) its quite irritating.

well. she said she wanted to study to be an Endo , but I haven't the slightest idea because we only talked for a few minutes. she could of be a medical student I really don't know, I just thought it cool that she asked me which pronouns I prefer and she told me she was trans. Again I haven't the slightest idea what pronouns to use in referring to this event.

Return the politeness and ask what pronouns that person prefers..
Took me a couple times to think of that.
Hugs,
Jen

Very cool experience.
Where I work most of the Doctors are Female. The COO and CEO are Female. Most of management is female. When I say most I mean 90%.

That's pretty awesome.
I've never had this happen to me unless I came out and told them.
I usually would get a straight,"ma'am", "miss" or "sir." Nobody would ask.

Thought I would chime in for a moment. First though, that's a pretty relieving story. I'm still transitioning in stealth (not out at work, not out to friends or family although they know I started then stopped hrt, but are unaware that I restarted), but I hope to one day be able to be outspoken about it without fear.
She was probably a Phlebotomist. You don't have to be a Doctor, have a Ph.D, or be a medical student to draw blood. :)
