Sheriff's investigators plan to recommend that prosecutors file a vehicular manslaughter charge against Caitlyn Jenner for her role in a fatal car crash last February, officials said Thursday.

Investigators found that Jenner was driving "unsafe for the prevailing road conditions" when her SUV rear-ended a Lexus, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said.

My personal thoughts on this: If she did something wrong, let her face justice. But I really don't like the fact that she might be placed in a men's prison because she is pre-op.

And on facebook the haterade is flowing like a river. :(

I'm not greatly informed, but, at least in the USA, aren't you allowed to be transferred to a prison or penitentiary for the gender you identify as, or at least be asked to be classed as a certain type of prisoner and put in a single-cell environment if you can't be transferred?

A sad tragedy perhaps made worse by factors such as celebrity and wealth?  Even the Associated press gets a bump by mentioning her name and referring to nameless investigators suggesting scandal.  Stay tuned for the next installment.

If Caitlyn is ever sentenced to be incarcerated, she will likely take advantage of Dr. Alter or Dr. Sinclair's extremely short waiting lists to ensure she gets to go to women's jail.

From what I understand, there is a 50/50 chance that she never gets charged.  If she does, she can afford the best lawyers in LA and likely beat it.  It seems that the worst case scenario is a misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter conviction and a one year sentence in county.  Since she has no record and is a well-known celebrity, I doubt that a maximum sentence will ever be imposed.  If she is charged, I suspect there would be a plea bargain deal, no time served, probation, a fine and a lot of public service hours.

The civil suits are what she really needs to worry about.

Time to get the Ouija board, summon the ghost of Robert Kardashian and do the genital electro thing to hedge your bets methinks.

It is sad, Tessa, and your point about the press milking this story is well taken. The irony here is that it seems possible that Ms. Jenner was driving too fast in an attempt to avoid the press; I gather she's been hounded a lot. (I'm just guessing here; I haven't followed this story at all closely and I don't know whether this was the case, but it wouldn't surprise me.)

Jill, I agree that as a celebrity, and especially as a wealthy white person, she's very unlikely to go to jail in the event she is charged and convicted.

I hope that there will be justice if it is true that she was driving carelessly, a person died. It's not right that since she's wealthy or a celebrity, that she has some type of immunity from jail, its very messed up. However I hope she gets to go to the women's prison, even without having the surgery, in the case she doesn't want it. However I doubt that she will risk anything, again she is a very privileged person, and a lot of other trans women face more discrimination in this case.

This is odd because i thought this was already settled? That the other driver was at fault? Or am i thinking of something/someone else because i was sure that i read of Bruce Jenner being in a car crash over a year ago but wasn't at fault.

Or i could have imagined it. I dont know

In most places you're placed according to your genitals. However in many places trans women and trans men are segregated from general population.

I'm not sure about California.

Caitlyn wants the surgery.

The best case for her apart from getting completely away would be house arrest or probation but I don't see the latter for a manslaughter charge. I could see a year of house arrest with an ankle bracelet on happening.

They would have to handle it very carefully since she is a high profile celeb, and since it is California I see them being sensitive to her needs as a trans woman.

Maybe this should be the first lawsuit against the newshounds.  They should get the same sentence?  This was how diana died back in the day..  yea they are rich, but these idiots are stalkers with cameras,  make a law that we can identify them as such on first offence and can use self protection from anyone with a camera! Yea news is important, but not at the point to embarrass or hurt innocent people!   Id hate anyone following me with a camera too.  Im sure someone would get hurt if a camera was pulled on me.  I treat it as a weapon!

The first amendment isnt a get out of jail free card. It does have its limits when it comes to public safety. Besides, stalking a celebrity and talking about their daily life is hardly considered journalism. It's voyeurism at best
