I mostly draw a lot. Besides drawing for fun, I'm currently working on a cover for a graphic novel and some character concepts for a game I'm trying to make with some friends from college.

Well, you don't have to be on hormones to be trans. It just means that you will have started your transition ; )

Smart lad. It's ungodly expensive here though.
Still a great state all in all. Just overcrowded, gas prices are terrible, infrastructure is crumbling apart, and we are always struggling with water.

I have some family there that I can live with, with a lot of extra space. I could move right now and I'd be fine. OOH.

And it's in the mountains. With forests and such.

Well, what I really want to do next is to show my father that I'm not being "convinced" by someone to be transgender
Also, I wanna start the endo appointments soon.

Up North then? I have family there as well. It's very idyllic compared to where I'm living. Though I do still love the desert and our Joshua trees.

Good luck with your endeavors.

That is tricky and I hope that goes well for you. This was something I was never able to convince my parents of. Be prepared if they want to lay the blame on someone you know, or a community you are a part of. They might not be easily swayed.
I hope your father is more level headed and rational though. That would be great.

I don't live with my parents, but my mother will come to visit next week. I think I'll write a letter, attach this post from Bedford Hope on it and sneak it in my mother's bag when she leaves.

I really need to deliver this message to my parents but i find myself unable to do it in person right now.

That's a good letter. It may be helpful for a lot of younger people here who are just coming out. I hope it is used.

I live on my own so it's not as bad for me. My parents have made up their mind and refuse to educate themselves or reach out to others. I've tried.
My father did get some therapy because of the affect my "decisions" have had on him. But I don't know how that ended up going. We don't talk much.

I might be kind of late to the discussion, but I'm 13 and trans. Everyone says that it's just hormones and tumblr that's "making" me trans but I've learned to deal with it. :-\

Oh, Colorado is also a good place to go to. There aren't a lot of religious people there and theres a lot of laws that protect trans and gay individuals. :) i live there.

Oh hey, just needed to share something.

Next weekend my grandparents will celebrate their 60 years of marriage with a big family dinner.
I'm still closeted for most of my family, and my father and sisters are putting pressure for me to cut my hair shorter. It's not long, but I don't wanna cut it. I wanna grow it so much more.

This has been stressing me, even though it sounds kinda silly. I've been feeling really bad lately for stuff like this. I'm not sure because I'm not a native english speaker, but I think "disphoria" is the word to describe it.

Anyone here on the same boat?

Well you're not the only one...
is it possible to make your hair a bit wet and comb it closer to your head so it looks less long ?
Or is it possible to make a ponytail ?

Glad to know that there are people here around my age.
I'm currently a FtM due to some decisions my parents made when I was around 10 (Was born intersex). But currently I'm planning to transition back, so MtF should be the correct term now...probably.

Oooh yes! I'm 19 years old mtf, and I can very well agree that I've had to do some mad suppression over the past years. " I could look death in the face and give him a middle finger, but could not discuss me wanting to live as a female with my parents... it's felt both scary and stressful

and In the end, my parents had been pretty open-minded about the situation.

Oh wow, I can relate with so many of you all! My mom is incredibly conservative and its because of her I have been forced to stay closeted around my family, friends, peers etc. in fear of upsetting her. I'm hoping to move into an apartment with my sister (who is the only family members who remotely knows) and start my gradual transition from there and hopefully go full time once I finish off freshman year of college and transfer somewhere that isn't so conservative. (I'm 18 atm)

Yesss! I had planned on isolating myself from my family at first, because I thought they would immediately disapprove, but I finally had built up enough courage to take a deep breath and go into the battlefield. the outcome was better than I imagined

I'm 21, does that count as young?? I've been living full time since I was 16 so anything you guys wanna ask about that I'm happy to answer. I will say this though; learn from my mistakes! I made a real hash of life at that time and I now have little contact with my family, not really because I'm trans but because of the way I went about it all at that time. I'd love to get to know some of you and if it helps, I'm also a teacher assistant in a special needs school and I'm in my last year of teacher training so I have plenty of experience dealing with young peoples issues :) xx

They even offer assistance... and there are other young transgender people there...

Public health systems are like the bus systems. slow, underfunded,  lots of people use them, and you never know when your next bus/appointment might be. Atleast we're in it!

Well they have a system where everything is paid for but its necessary to have docs given permission .
it might take some time.

In the us there is informed consent for adults...
and there might be programs or sliding scales for people with lower income.
It might be a good idea to ask with plannedparenthood, lgbt centers or endos/clinics.

I'm 17, will be 18 in May. I will start testosterone shortly thereafter, if I can afford it. I already have an appointment with an endocrinologist in June.
Title: Re: Are there many young trans?

Well you have to be at the Tavistock because you're under 18 and they are the only GIC for under 18s, and then you have 4+ish appointments before you get referred to an endocrinologist then the endorsed has to look at your stuff and in a few appointments you'll be on blockers.

I'm 16 but I just finally accepted it. I really wish that I had just said how I felt when I was young. But my stupid grandmother and right wing Christian family filled my head with so much of their stupid lies about transgender people and the like that I hid it out of fear. I just wish that I could go back in time and change it. I feel like I'm going to cry...

Don't be sad. There is now a lot more information and help to come by. And sentiment is also better imo.
Just enjoy and make use of what is now. Look forwards and just try to make the best of it.

I know, and I try to stay positive but it's just really hard.

Especially in my position. Other than a few slightly feminine traits to my skeletal structure, like when my palms are facing forward, the elbows have a very pronounced outward angle to them and relative to my shoulders, significantly wider hips than most people, I'm really masculine. And the only way to fix this as far as I know would be to either modify/replace bones or have started hormones very early on. But, I haven't seen a therapist yet since I'm not even close to coming out yet. I'm just hoping I can get a car and a job soon so I can at least get an initial appointment done.

You might contact plannedparenthood or a lgbt center. They have phone and email.
You might ask for counseling there.

A lot can change later still. There is much growth change still until 25, and later.
Fat redistribution and more feminine features are always possible.
Of couse its better when young, but its always possible.

One option might be blockers.
You simply might ask for counseling.

Late arrival, please don't lump Right Wing Christians...my parents are very conservative, yet they do support gay rights and transism...I might be the most liberal in my family, but even I would vote for Ted Cruz if I could vote.

That's a good idea but once again I don't have a car to go to a place where I can do that and my family is home all the time so I can't just skype a place and talk about this. I have to come on here in the middle of the night so I don't reveal my transism before I'm ready.

I never lumped right wing Christians, or I didn't intend to. I just mentioned that my family are right wing Christians and that they think that being gay or trans is a very bad thing. I'm pretty sure that I would lose a good half of my family if I came out in the wrong way or a third if I'm lucky.

Well some people go to the toilet and skype from there... or the bathroom... or your room, and close the door..

You might tell the people you contact all that. They might accomodate and use telephone, skype and email for contact.

There are also special transgender hotlines:

Why not make a poll? Can do by "age range" - lets say less than (< 18) then every 10 years next?

I know there's been a constant stream of "New People" signing up, coming in and then again also leaving for sure. Since joining these forums myself a total of 44,040 members have registered @ Susans. (can do own math based on embedded "u"ser=numbers)

I suspect this board is getting younger everyday, certainly less than the few surviving founding members still quietly visiting here.

LOL Was '16' once upon a time. Didn't 'ave internet back then don't post much these days due "PC Police" . . . have seen same thread concerns answered 'bout 100 different ways. Unlike the LGB agendas I think we're all quite UNIQUE!!

(ps: my actual "post count" is probably 'bout 3x's what you see here. When some people decide to leave they also take with them/delete their posts as well!)

Hey, I'm Adrian. 16 FtM. Glad to see so many other people on here who are young. It seems sometimes that everyone on here is old(er) and has other issues than what we face, what with the financial dependence and lack of ability to sign our own informed consent contracts.

Probably going to come out before senior year so I can make some progress transition wise before university, but who knows? (Lowkey super jealous of all the people my age on hormones and getting legal name changes while I sit here in my closet).

Thanks, haha. I was really lucky to have found an amazing therapist who really turned my life around. I worried that too about myself - I know a few guys that transitioned in their 30s+ and pass so well you wouldn't even be able to tell they're trans, lol. And of course!

Hey I'm 17. Use the IRC on here, and just joined the actual cite officially. It is hard for me to work through how I feel about transitioning myself, but I still support anyone does go through with it. They have to be some of the braver people there are. They have to completely learn to live as the opposite of what society told them they were. So I will support most advancement of gender equality, and the ability to become anyones true self.

My name is Ian. I would be MTF

Ian,

Welcome to the site. At the risk of being lazy... Please read my post above yours and check out those links.

It's great to have you here. Look around, continue to interact and don't be afraid to ask questions.

With warmth,

Joanna

Here are some resources that could help understand:

It may be a bit easier when people understand its really how they feel.
They alread feel as the gender they identify with. If they let it shine through, it can help, with mannerism and gait, and it will look natural. Not exaggerating it but simply expressing it in a natural way.

o: I'm 14, almost 15. FTM, I'm only out to about three people offline though xD I think I'm going to be speaking to someone at the end of this month to see if I have Aspergers or something, my gender identity will probably get brought up at some point too. I've heard gender dysphoric people have a higher chance of being autistic (or was it the other way around?); I wouldn't be surprised if I am actually autistic to be honest

Hi guys :) I haven't been on this thread in a long time. Great news, I got my prescription for testosterone today, and I am going for my first injection tomorrow :) I hardly believe that it's finally happening, this on top of other things. I'm so happy, for a variety of reasons. Oh, and i'm newly an adult (in the eyes of the US, anyways!)

Not technically in the under 20 range.... I'm 22 (still kind of young-ish?). My teenage sibling thinks my age sounds ancient though ::)
----------
Side note: Am I the only one that thinks a poll of ages (or the year you were born) would be interesting? As in if everyone on the site answered...I think it would be cool to see what the majority age is on this site. I'm one to analyze things at times. Might make one up soon, should make sure it doesn't exist first though. :P
