Title: Out to my GP today - step 1: great success.
Post by: kellb on September 07, 2015, 05:29:39 AM
Welp, I went to my GP to see about my testicular cysts... This week has been the worst it's ever been, even though I've been absolutely over the moon for having figured myself out finally.

My doctor is great, and we've talked about mental health and anxiety in the past.  While we were talking, she said "I'm sorry, but if they get very bad, they may have to be removed."  I said "No worries.  I'm not all that attached to them, anyway".  Well, that got her curious... in the end, it was easier to simply tell her how it was.  I told her everything - my non-binary gender, feelings of body dysphoria... it just came tumbling out.

And OMG, she was incredible.  So supportive and kind - she even said I made her day for being so profoundly happy when she usually deals with unhappy sick people!  I must have the best doctor ever. :D

This was the first person I've told who wasn't close enough to be family, and I'm super-thrilled it was a positive result!!

Wow! - congratulations :D  It sounds like you've got a GP who is one to keep.

Yes, it does feel great!  Finally understanding myself and being understood in return?  What majick is this??  I seem to have stumbled into the life of a happy person!

Haha, my mum and dad came to visit me last week - they're very old and frail.  My mum thought she had a blood clot, so I sent her to my doctor.  She was well-looked after and whisked to the hospital (it's ok, false alarm!).  Love my doctor to bits. <3

You'd think that people as educated as doctors would have a more open mind in general, but I've met my fair share who seem to be extremely opinionated and narrow-minded.  And that makes me wonder what else they aren't progressive about... like anesthesia. :)

I'm glad that yours better fits the mold of an educated professional!
