Title: Is it my imagination or is there some misogyny implicit here?

New Directv commercial starring Peyton Manning. How do we feel about this?

I don't see it as misogyny but rather a message that "real men" watch football and if one doesn't they are "lesser", effeminate or gay.

I absolutely loathe watching sports on TV but that commercial really makes me angry.

I just saw that, and my reaction was "Hmm. That's sort of... offensive."

The ad appeals to the same macho alpha male attitude that gets many members of our community abused - i.e.: "Real Men" (C) watch football and don't act gay or have high voices, insinuating that gay acting men or men with high voices are targets for ridicule which the ad does.

Not a very good advertising strategy IMO.

There's one about short people too.

Wow, yeah.  I don't know that I'd say it's misogyny, but it's definitely offensive.  I mean, I know guys who would think this is funny, because they're the football watching types, but I'm sort of surprised this mentally made its way into a commercial in this day and age.

One day sport will be dragged into the 1950s. It seems to be filled with knuckle scraping neanderthal halfwits stuck in the 1940s.

That was weird.  I'm not sure what to make of that.  I'm usually a fan of the DirecTV commercials, both Rob Lowe and the NFL ones, but that is just off putting.

I'm still waiting for one from the Bears QB.
"HI, I'm Jay Cutler."
"And I'm Jay Cutler who vaccinates his children."

I tend to give Peyton Manning the benefit of the doubt.  He's genuinely earned such a dour professional image, and then he occasionally does things like the United Way spoof on SNL or the self-mocking Papa John's commercials.  This is actually the worst of this series I've seen, but I don't believe there's honest malice here.
