And when the Carson woman announced to her employer that she was helping start a local branch of the 35-year-old gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender support organization, PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians & Gays), the employer simply requested she not make her involvement public.
"I see having a local PFLAG as a breakthrough," she said. "I'm respecting the request to not make (my involvement) public, but it may be an indicator of where we're at.
