Hello all,
My name is Maeve. I am 23, mtf, and in the very beginnings of transitioning. I am currently overwhelmed by everything, the costs associated with transitioning, the worries about what friends will say amongst themselves, the nervousness of never looking how I really want to. The general anxieties for us all I am sure. I recently started seeing a gender therapist, but only just, so we'll see how it goes! I am married. My partner and I run a Zen Buddhist meditation group (in a Chinese lineage tradition, if anyone cares) and are on the tract to opening a temple and getting ordained as monks. I struggle with a genetic condition called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (type 3) that makes my daily life a little painful and unpleasant. Above all, I am very happy to be here and to have found this incredible resource. I know that a sense of community will be one of the few things to keep me sane during this difficult time, and I look forward to making new friends!
Thank you all for reading,
Bows and blessings,
~Maeve

Welcome to Susan's Place. I found this site looking for voice surgery as my surgery was in 1982 and I am learning much about others things as the world has changed much after my transitions. If there is anything we can help you with, post it on this thread or a thread in the desired form. I am sure somebody will be happy to help you.

Big warm welcome to Susan's Maeve,
Yes I was always very, paranoid about these things, I am a lot older, but I wish that I knew over all the many years before the things that I know now, because in reality planning and taking those bold steps really do reduce much of those anxieties. Certainly some are always an issues like telling your partner of over 40 years that you are not who she thought you were :-\ As far as looks go, its amazing what HRT and a healthier lifestyle can do, even for an oldie like me!
That's very commendable and certainly shows how you can focus on your directions 8)
Sorry about your medical condition I really don't know anything about the condition, apologies!
You are definitely with many folks that have surmounted many obstacles in there life along with what nature blessed us with... You will gain a lot of strength and encouragement here and I look forward to seeing you around the forum's.

Hey Maeve, you did a wonderful decision by joining Susan's for support. Congrats on contacting and getting help from a therapist as well. I know it will be and is overwhelming, but just by taking those baby steps toward your true self, you are making such a positive difference in your life. :)
