"On Tuesday September 22, 2015, Mayor Steven Fulop announced that "Jersey City would be expanding the health care it offers city employees to include coverage for transgender medical care and related procedures, such as gender affirmation surgery." Jersey City will be one of only a handful of large cities across the country offering such benefits and becomes the first in New Jersey and only the second such city in the East following Philadelphia."

It's great that a lot of cities and states are offering transgender healthcare for their employees, but not everybody works for federal, state or local governments. They shouldn't forget those of us in the private sector. Although many foresighted companies offer TG healthcare as it relates to transitional services, alas many do not and much unnecessary suffering could be alleviated. Perhaps someday soon.

Jersey City has the largest LGBT population in the state and is a very diverse city. I used to work in Jersey City (not for Jersey City) and have several friends that live there. It's so different that in the 1980's and early parts in the 1990's you wouldn't have wanted to live there. There are still a few sketchy parts, but it's amazed how much that city has changed for the better. Unfortunately it's also very expensive to live in the nice parts (Grove St, Pavonia/Newport Area) mostly due a quick PATH Train ride to Manhattan.
