Title: How to name change?

There's so much confusion about how to name change, I've been told deed polls aren't a legal document so no point paying when you can create your own, my doctor at the GIC told me I need to get a name change form from the courts, I contacted the courts and they told me it's £210 however I think they have got this confused as this seems to be for children?
How can I change my name so my passport and bank etc will be in my chosen name?

Name changes are not very cheap and yes they are done through the courts. Someone from the country you live in will be able to respond as to laws in your country. Hugs

In the UK it is easier and cheaper. You can do a deed poll. In the USA we need a court order.
https://www.gov.uk/change-name-deed-poll/overview
It's £36. Do it officially. It is not too dear at all.

Deed polls are perfectly legal.
You can even print it out yourself as long as it has the correct wording. The great thing about it is the official way is actually no more legal than doing it yourself. Some organisations may ask for some additional evidence to prove you are who you say you are ( banks require ID in your old name of some kind I believe )
The official way needs 2 independent witnesses that have known you for at least 10 years. If you don't have this, then you can do it the free way. (Still needs independent witnesses but they do not need to actually know you.)
I am currently doing this myself and opted to print them myself. I can post back my results if it helps.
