If you something you can put a small amount of lubricant in with before you dilate, that helps. If not you can get a tool to do it from a yeast infection kit. Use only the tool from the kit. Insert the dilator slowly taking minutes if needed. The skin needs to stretch and forcing it will hurt. Use plenty of lubricant. I don't know what's used now but I use KY jelly or the cheap store brand next to the KY.

Yep, inserting extra lube with an applicator was really helpful for me too. It was right around 4 months post-op that I started noticing a lot of difficulty with tightness (which I'd never had before). My doctor said that it was scar tissue contracting, and recommended very gentle massage for 2-3 minutes, right before dilation - put a finger about an inch inside and press very gently around the whole entrance, using a bit of lube if it helps, and see if that relaxes the muscles and breaks up the scar tissue.
The more it hurts, the more you will tense up, which tightens those internal muscles. So part of the problem is going to be finding a way to relax, which I realize is easier said than done; whatever works best for you to relax overall (pleasant music/glass of wine/hot bath/etc.) will probably help.

My understanding is that the more it tightens up the more often you need to dilate. You might also get stronger painkillers to get you through this stage.
It's not just muscles, but scar tissue contraction. I've not heard of Botox being used before, bit if its scar tissue I'm not sure how Boxtox would help (I know very little about medicine though).

This is reasonably common, and is an approved use of botox. It has an enormously high success rate in treating muscular contraction in cis women with vaginisimus. I'm looking into having botox done at the moment.

Hello, someone on this forum recommended coconut oil for dilatation. Wow it really works and I think it helps heal scars.
Thank you,
Anne

All at your own risk and talk it all through with your doc:
-you might try coconut oil to dilate. It has small molecules and might help soften the tissue .
Just look if the dilator is oil resistant.
-some people use estrogen cream from a gyn from time to time to soften the tissue. It has more estrogen than otc cream.
-you might think about probiotic pessaries a few months after srs

Sounds exactly like my experience. It was easier at first but when the scar tissue starts to contract in earnest you really need to fight hard. It does get easier but for a time it can be really truly grim. The hardest bit is trying to relax. Heat pads, copious lube, dilate often and as long as you can take it, distractions like movies, pain killers, music and books helped me. Something else that helped was dilating while skyping with friends who were also dilating.
I have one other word for it though, marijuana. I don't know about the laws in your country but I have some friends that found it excellent for the relaxation and pain relief. I can't take it as it affects my mental health but I know some people who found it to be just the ticket. I'm not advocating drug use but sometimes you do what you need to get the job done.
I say if your doctor is recommending botox that sounds fab!
