Title: New Job!
Post by: thorhugs on October 05, 2015, 02:30:49 PM
I'm so stoked but also kind of terrified in that thrilling sort of way. It's the biggest, highest paying job I've ever had. I've had shady call center experience and the crazy roller coaster of being a freelance artist. But this is a job with actual office supplies given to people and business cards! Even if it's just data entry.

But now I get like....a paycheck! I'll know exactly when I'm getting money. Which is something I haven't had much of. And then there's the even better prospect: INSURANCE. I've been on the state health plan for a while, which no gender therapist in the area accepts.

Here's hoping they're open-minded and accepting!

Congrats! A word of advice from someone who also went from sporadic income to regular paychecks some time ago - treat yourself to something with your first paycheck, and then start saving as much as you can.

FWIW, you may find that there are online therapists who charge less than what you'd be paying in terms of an insurance copay. If you don't mind meeting virtually, it's something to consider if you're looking to get the ball rolling. Both of the therapists I saw charged $40-50 per session, and my copay for mental health visits would have been $40.

I fully intend to treat myself because it's been far too long. It'll probably be clothes or something, because for the first time in my life, I actually enjoy buying clothes.

When I had my regular job a few years ago, I saved nothing in six years of employment. And regretted it terribly.

I'll have to keep the virtual thing in mind. For stuff like that, I prefer the physical meeting. And Portland seems to have a LOT of affordable options if you have regular insurance. But we shall see!
