Just curious if anyone got some good stories pre or early transition when you were caught by someone while dressing up or putting on make up. I'm pretty much full time so a lot of people where I live see me properly and others will gender me properly without make up and dresses, but I still get a little embarrassed on close contact. I was sitting in a coffee shop today. Its owned by a woman my age and we're friends . She's seen me with make up on most of the time. Today I had my false eyelashes with the glue sitting by my computer getting ready to put them on and she came up behind me and started wiping the table and almost taking my eyelashes . I felt a shiver of embarrassment as she was standing there even though I'm pretty  much open about myself. The only other time I almost got caught when I was a teen and wearing my sisters prom dress and my father came home  when he was supposed to be at work and gave me the shock of my life. I guess I'm still not totally over feeling embarrassed .

Only when my mom caught me at 4 years old, then panicked how boys weren't supposed to wear pantyhose.

When i was 13 my cousin came over and found me in one the dresses she had left over the day prior for my sister, we didn't talk about it till 5 years later when I came out to her.  The last time I got caught was about 3 months when my mother deiced she would do my laundry for me(I wasn't out to my mother yet) and found my girl clothes, I was then forced to tell her everything.

when I was a teen and had my sisters dress on and my dad came home he chased me around the top floor of our house  I definitely freaked out and tried to stay out of his view he gave up and never said anything to me . big time heart attack.

I put on some cleats, a cup, shoulder-pads and a helmet in high school and everyone saw me.. even cheerleaders.  I even put on some very smokey-eye makeup near my cheekbones.  Can you believe it; I did this sh*t for a whole season... how embarrassing :embarrassed:

When I was little (8-10?) I used to sneak into my parents room and try on my mums clothes.

So there I am in my mothers freaking wedding dress when I hear someone coming up the stairs. I have never undressed so fast in my life! I basicly flew out of it and threw it into the closet (heh). Unfortunately I didn't have time to get re dressed. So I did the only thing I could think of and jumped into their bed.

"what are you doing?" My father asked.

"just having a nap.."

"why are your mothers clothes on the closet floor?" His eyes narrow with suspicion

"I dunno. The cats where playing in there earlier" I replied nonchalantly.

Needless to say this ended up in a chat with my parents downstairs where my mother asked "where you wearing mommy's clothes?" and my inspired and adult reply was  "what do you think I am some kind of freak?!" and ran off crying to my room.

They never brought it up again and to this day don't even remember it. I spent the rest of my childhood and adolescence thinking they know but they knew squat.

I was raised in Liverpool in the UK, my birthday is 1 Jan. On my 18th every one was going out to different parties, but I stayed home.

I put on my sisters make-up, I had long hair, and I put on her nicest dress (well I thought it was). I danced around the house and suddenly - the front door burst open with my parents, relatives and friends!

SURPRISE - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

There I was. Sprung!!!!!!

I should point out that it's still recent that I'm presenting as female in public at all, but on my first time out in a dress I was stuck at a crosswalk and I could see two guys in their car stuck at the intersection having a laugh about me.

That was a pretty crappy feeling.

Sooooo many near misses growing up to mention but probably one that I remember was when I was around 14-15. My parents used to take my brothers and me to football games each Wednesday night so I knew they would be gone for a few hours. I decided to cut out one week so I could dress up in my sisters clothes and do all my make up etc. and have a bit of alone time as a girl.

So I get ready in a cute outfit, put my face on and read some magazines just chilling out instead of going to the cold wet football match. I know roughly what time they'll be back so I begin getting changed back into my boy clothes, putting their clothes back and begin removing my make up. I'm still in the bathroom taking off the last of the make up when they all come home so it's all good and another successful covert mission....or so I thought.

I'm downstairs soon after getting some juice from the fridge and one of my brothers comes over to grab something and makes a throwaway comment like "You haven't take your mascara off" and laughs getting on with whatever it was he was getting from the fridge. I laugh him off and push him away before creeping back to the bathroom and seeing he was right and i have indeed a nice black streak of badly removed mascara on my eyelid - d'oh!

Can only assume he thought it was something else rather than what he thought was a funny put down.

Well that sucks, people can be so insensitive and rude. I've probably got a lifetime of this to look forward to but my skin is pretty thick.

Back when I lived as a woman full time (albeit for a very short time) I only really went out at night and got this kind of reaction infrequently but just learnt to ignore them. Still a crappy feeling all the same.

When I was in my teens, my friends and I were bar-hopping with a friend of ours who was not TS but enjoyed dressing up for the thrills (I could never figure her out).  One particular evening we were waiting on a friend to finish her primping while the rest of us were waiting in the car on the quiet street behind her house.  Well, our little friend who was not TS but just enjoyed dressing, decides she has to tinkle and proceeds to do it in the street -- STANDING WHILE HIKING HER DRESS UP!! ugh!  Yes, we are all going OMG, etc.  As luck would have it, a police officer is cruising that section of the street at the very moment and spots a girl tinkling while standing. Naturally, he comes over to investigate (lights on, siren going). All of us get taken in and a great commotion ensues at the police department with them not knowing who is cisgender or not. I decide to invoke my father's name and two quick calls we were released.  Whew!!  To this day I could strangle her for doing that.

Oh wow, do I ever remember!

I often under dressed at work. Not a good thing to do because I worked in a correctional setting and who knows if I'd have anything happen resulting in an unscheduled hospital trip.  I made sure no one saw my bra under my uniform because I either wore a sweater or my uniform jacket. If I got too hot, I'd go to the washroom and take off the bra first.

So, I'm sitting there minding my own business in when one of my female co-workers comes in and without warning playfully ran her finger down my back and her finger stopped, then went over the bra's band! I must have jumped up like her finger was a hot poker!

She asked me quietly if I was wearing a bra and there was no fooling her, she knew exactly what it was. I told her yes and I could explain so I did. I asked her to keep it to herself because I wasn't near ready to come out yet and such a piece of information like that could have drastic effects. She agreed to say nothing.

We met up the next day for lunch and she asked me some questions and I answered them honestly and she did keep it to herself but I could imagine the look on my face when she ran her finger down my back.

In my first couple weeks of transition I recall two cis women standing in the next line over at the grocery store. Leaning on eachother, looking at me, joking, pointing and laughing. A few weeks later two cis men in a different store did the same thing.

The first time I was caught was around the wrong puberty, 11 or so years old. My father came home early to find me, yet again unbeknownst to him, in my Mom's clothes. He came in the house so fast I didn't have time to strip off. I was in her underwear and was struggling to get the hose off without catching them. He told me it was okay. That he got it, sexual thrill right? He said he had done it once too. That confused me for years. He even brought it up when I came out to them earlier this year. It felt good to tell him that I was not like him in that respect and clear the waters.

I would say that the "scariest" story of dressing up was how natural it was, and how good it made me feel. I still get a massive case of the smiles, and overwhelming giddiness when a look comes together and you transform in the morror. Spooky what clothes can do for ones attitude and self-esteem.  :D

I can identify with that, Harley Quinn. I went to an event dressed as a woman on a bet and that was the beginning of the slippery slope that has led me to be where I am today. That was indeed the link that was missing in my life!

I'd spent a whole afternoon dressed and it was my first time with full makeup and a wig. I took 2 showers and scrubbed my face and eyes for the longest time. So my wife comes home and takes one look at me and goes "What's wrong with your eyes? It looks like you have 2 black eyes!" I evidently acted so freaked out that when I stepped out to grab a pizza, she went looking and found my stash. A week of sleeping on the couch later, we found out she was pregnant. That was 9 months ago.

I was never caught dressing up but there were some close calls. The most embarrassing moment someone realized I dressed up was when I returned breast forms I ordered online. I forgot to put the name of the store, which didn't indicate anything about what was inside. The guy said I needed to put the name and I said I was returning the package for a friend. Eventually he googled the address and it came up to the website. I am so glad he didn't say anything since the store was packed.
