Title: The *other* changes
Post by: Promethea on October 18, 2015, 10:29:12 PM
So we all know about the physical changes that we go through during our transition, as well as some emotional changes caused by the new hormones.

There are some other changes that, while not directly caused by treatment are easy to understand, like being more outgoing, smiling more, or having a better outlook of life.

But then, sometimes there are other changes that make it look like we really are a different person.

For me, one of the things I noticed is that, the handful of foods I didn't like, I'm now perfectly fine eating them. No HRT yet to cause any biological changes in my body that could somehow affect my taste buds.

What's more interesting is that one of these things were olives. They have such a strong peculiar taste that it you don't like them you hate them. They're one of those things that you can taste in a mouthful of food even if there isn't any piece of it actually in your mouth, and if you happen to accidentally bite a piece and you don't like it... you just need to spit it out. But since I transitioned I can eat them whole (minus the stone) and actually enjoy it!

I can't honestly say. I do notice myself liking things (such as Motown) that I realize in retrospect I didn't allow myself to like before. I was in denial until two years ago that I wasn't a cis male. I can't remember many details of my childhood, but from what I can remember of my father, any feminine behavior on my part would have been quickly stamped out with ridicule and harsh verbal responses. My therapist said that I might regain those memories some day, but as of now I recall almost nothing before I was seven years old.

Well my changes in food preference has been profound!

I use to love a juicy rare steak etc; now I hardly ever eat meat, I love seafood, which I didn't particularly like - and I now eat onions; which I use to loath!
