I think this is one of those cases where someone made a rule, and didn't think it out completely. Then again, this is also from Texas, a very conservative state from what I hear. It'll probably get oveturned. Goodness knows there are probably a fair bit of people who will rally against it

I hope so. There's a lot of fatalism in the transgender community. It's hard to get people out to rally. I hope Texas has a few, because this rule is pure evil.

If I may play devils advocate here, a girl (and that's who this is aimed at here) who isn't on blockers is essentially on steroids. I've run 5 5ks in my life, if I had been allowed to race as a female in those I would have won 4 and come in second in the other one (she was going to college on an athletic scholarship) and I'm not even that fast. The article mentions variability in builds but they don't really address the point that some girls will be much larger and stronger than their teammates/opponents. If I had been out and transitioning in high school and I tried a slide tackle in soccer I probably would have sent some poor girl to the hospital. I understand that this can be yet another sleight to a short petite transgirl, but this isn't a baseless concern. When I played football in middle school I had to wear a special line on my helmet because I was "too big" to be a receiver. They have these types of rules both for safety and fair competition. If they want to instead put in height weight limitations fine, but I understand why they might just decide to not bother with it at all.

Just my $.02

If that's the case, then why not group based on size rather than sex? I.e. A six foot tall musclebound FAAB (they do exist) would experience the same advantages but would not be barred. Likewise a small statured MAAB would be permitted on the field with the men, even though he faces the same danger. They're singling out transgender people who have physical advantages while cisgender people with those same advantages are permitted to compete.

Cissexism.

I have to agree with the above comment.  Even at older than 50 years old, before I started HRT  I was faster than nearly all the high school female cross county  runners in local 5ks.  Unless someone in high school starts blockers before puberty or is on HRT for a very extended time I think it is hugely unfair to the other girls if they are competing against each other,

I sympathize with the trans girls but I equally sympathize with the CIS girls who are out there giving their physical best.

Edited to add:  for the running sports physical size isn't the big differentiator.  It's internal cardiovascular differences that are very real.
