Title: Possible Sublingual problem...

I learned of taking my estradiol pill orally, under the tongue, on the site- for some reason I don't know if I'm doing it properly.
I've been putting it under my tongue, but it always travels around my tongue. I then vehemently swallow anything I can, and if I still feel anything around my mouth I chug down a bottle of water. I feel like there is a better way to go about this...

They claim that by using this method , it is easier on the liver.
however i am not doing it, im afraid that some of it wouldnt be absorbed because of teeth or whatever i feel confortable knowing that its all the way inside my body and i dont have any problem so far. If i ever feel like my liver would work to hard, i would add Choline Inositol + NAC supplement to help the liver wich is used widely in bodybuilding when supplementing.

Hi Orchid,
I can totally relate. However, I have read it here a few months ago that by placing the pill on side of your tongue instead of the center will give you more control of its movement.
I have tried it and it doesn't move at all. It also dissolves slowly which I think is a plus.
Try it :)

Try not to talk, chew or drink anything until it's mostly gone.

I really appreciate the feedback. (-:
I haven't tried putting it on one side of my tongue. I'll do that tomorrow! Thanks!

Here is more information on sublingual intake:
https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,196347.msg1747947.html#msg1747947
Its supposed to be less straining on the liver and less causing clotting factors.
Its also more efficient since part of it otherwise is filtered by the liver.
Best for dissolving is biological identical micronized estrogen.
There are coated pills which dissolve not as easy.
If in doubt you might ask your doc.
hugs

While you can take micronized estradiol sublingually, I never saw the point considering a normal and healthy liver and lifestyle.
That is, the important point for pre-op MTF women is to receive a constant amount of estrogen ( in tandem with AAs ) to suppress T production and absorption as much as required to reach female levels. So long as your prescription does this via normal oral administration, then why bother?

One point is a bit of a strain on the liver.
Another one is causing blood clotting factors.
With oral intake there seems to be a mechanism where the body seems to presume some kind of internal leak and thus tries to raise blood clotting factors.
Both are less (or imo not at all at the end of the list) present with sublingual intake, patches or gel, injections and implants.

Hi,
I have been taking it sublingually for about 9 months (Progynova 1 tablet) under my tongue. I take it every night after my other medication and as I go to sleep. One problem I have found is that if it goes up against the gum line behind the teeth, it can cause an ulcer, which is annoying and takes time to resolve. But there is no doubt that I am getting better results from my daily pill. (I am on low dose HRT), since I moved from swallowing it.

Not sure how it is elsewhere, in addition to my APN recommending sublingual, my prescription actually says to take it sublingual, right on the bottle. So, I do. Being new, I haven't had much thought to challenge that notion.
The actual process usually goes really quickly for me, pills are in powder form under my tongue within a few minutes. Happily, they taste ok too.
I was never a fan of the taste of chalky or uncoated pills, my "trick" for taking them and avoiding the taste was to put them under my tongue and then drink water, quickly flushing them over my tongue and down my thought.
My only worry is that I forget to do that or trap the other pills under my tongue in the future, as my mouth adapts to the sublingual E. :)

I take my estradiol sublingual. The generic brands made by Teva or Mylan dissolve in a matter of 2 or 3 minutes. But sometimes I get a tablet that just does not want to dissolve. Then I will bite down gently on the tablet to break it apart and let the remaining fragments sit under my tongue or a few more minutes. Yes, it is a little chalky but really not that bad.

I asked my endo about taking estradiol sublingual and he told me not to bother because in his opinion most of it ends up being swallowed through saliva anyway. Does anyone think that's valid?

Here is a graph showing it makes a lot of difference :

imo its also better to spread the daily dose in a few small doses...
the highs won't be as high and the lows will be higher up...
so this might avoid some pms like mood swings in some people...
another way might be to use one patch for steady levels and pills...

I'm sure a percentage of it does go right down with saliva, I can feel it as it becomes powdery sliding around under my tongue. I'm good with that though .... another percentage gets absorbed as intended bypassing the liver. To me, that's a win-win.
