"Student feminists want to stop the veteran feminist from speaking at universities - because of her beliefs about transgender people. But why are women always punished more than men for having controversial opinions?"

IMO, this author devotes a whole lot of words (not all of which I read) to justify hate. What Ms. Greer says is hate. Hateful words against black people, latinos, members of non-mainstream religions, and even gay people are no longer socially unacceptable, but Ms. Lewis seems to think hateful words against trans people are OK.

I disagree.

She has a theory that trans women aren't woman and will never be a woman. They are only men with mutilated bodies.

A lot of the article was pretty good and even I have to agree that the constantly changing words and meanings of words in this area leave me confused a lot of the time.  But what Ms. Greer said and the way she said it was deliberately antagonistic.

I'm not sure that women are punished more than men for hateful opinions. And just because she's an iconic second wave feminist doesn't make anyone unfeminist for disagreeing with her. I think it shows a lot about what modern feminism means that she's not been given a pass by the current generation.
