Title: Tax Deductions for FFS Surgery (And Pre/Post Op Pictures)
Post by: Na_nat on October 28, 2015, 02:39:54 PM
I recently went through facial feminization surgery in Mexico and was curious about the ability to claim the expense as medical tax deductible in Canada.

I have found the following information but it seems to be more of a non-answer than anything else.
http://taxinterpretations.com/?p=10560 (http://taxinterpretations.com/?p=10560)

Any help would be appreciated from anyone who has done this.

That is a non answer indeed. I think if you have a letter from a psychiatrist stating that in your case this was a medical procedure, you should be able to write some of it off I think even though it was not a procedure to overcome a life threatening situation. You look great tho even though I couldn't help....

Sorry not sure about that but wow great results! What all did you get done? Am I seeing a brow ridge disappear there?

I had a Type III forehead reconstruction, now the swelling is down I still have a slight ridge but nothing nearly as pronounced as before.

All Procedures:
- Forehead reconstruction (Type III) This was major as I had/have very deep set eyes and the supra orbital bone was quite pronounced.
- Rhinoplasty
- Upper lip lift (Butterfly incision under the nose)
- Chin contouring (Just grinding bone, no remodelling)
- Jaw contouring to bring into alignment with the chin.

The doctor was Dr Cardenas in Guadalajara.

He was very good and highly recommended, I gave my suggestions with the addition that surgeons know what looks good so do what he wanted, just make me look good.

The results have changed more since this as my face has slimmed in month 5, they really do mean it when they say 6 months to see final results as I seem to look different every 2 weeks.

I will be going for filler in Canada at the end of November to smooth out the jawline more and possibly reduce the ridge further.

As long as you can certify that is to treat gender identity disorder or gender dysphoria, yes you can deduct the cost.

There is precedent in O'Donnabhain v. Commissioner (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O%27Donnabhain_v._Commissioner).

You look absolutely fantastic! Gorgeous! I was thinking I could get by without FFS, but your results have truly inspired me!

And look at the rest of you, so feminine!

And thanks for the tax deduction education, hehe.
