So Honey,
Tell us a little about Kenya. What is it like for transgender people? Do you access to medical services for HRT etc?
People imagine I have kangaroos in my garden, I think we have images of Lions in yours!

LOL! You have kangaroos in your garden? That's so cool! LOL I kid. Naa, we don't have lions in our gardens...don't even have a garden hahaha! I live in an apartment with my boyfriend in one of the many suburbs of Nairobi.
But we do have one of the world reknowned Nairobi National Park right at the heart of the city! So seeing lions for me is a simple bus ride to town (1hr) and another one to the park (1hr).
I have been able to access HRT - chemists (pharmacies) here mostly don't ask for prescriptions so it isn't a hustle. It is quite expensive though. Progynova (estradiol valerate) and the main surgery (srs) is banned by the government after Audrey tried to get it and she was told off! So yea. Looking and saving up for about USD 8,000 to finance my srs. Already done the orchie - easily actually - using a private surgeon and at a private hospital. No hustle.
Most of these services are out of reach to many trans Kenyans though since Nairobi seems to be the only place they stock Progynova and Provera and Kisumu and Mombasa trans folks are left out. Also, poverty is a big issue. One would rather remain "in the closet" than try transition. Society is terrible!
Anything I left out?
Dosages removed

Hi kadame,
Another big Aussie welcome to Susan's family. The other girls are from Australa, quite a different place to Aussieland. ;D ;D It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while.
There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting.
Kangaroos aren't the only thing Cindy has in her garden. In fact they are all over her place. In the fridge, the stove, shower; even her bedroom. Hard to move in place in fact because of them. Not sure what we are going to do about it. Cindy, that is, not the kangaroos. The kangaroos are OK, it's Cindy who isn't [Shes going to kill me for that ] ;D ;D
I would think cultural acceptance would be very difficult in Kenya. Would you ever consider leaving?
Looking forward to hearing more of your story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.
Speak to you as soon as I wash my hair
Lotsa huggs
Catherine

Welcome, Kadame! My best friend at work is from Kenya. Other than the one manager who's also a trans woman she was the first to accept me. She treats me like one of the girls and always genders me properly. I hope the ones who stayed there are as accepting of you.
