Title: Hello Everyone
Post by: BeverlyAnn on November 03, 2015, 07:31:05 PM

I doubt if there are many around who remember me so I'll introduce myself. I'm one of the denizens of Susan's and a former moderator from back in the late 90's and early 2000's. The last few years I've been a full time caregiver for my mother and disabled brother who both passed a couple of years ago. I've dropped in as a lurker a few times to read some news articles and a few other posts but I really missed even a little interaction on the forums.

Welcome to Susan's Place. I don't remember you because I joined in May but I am glad to meet you. I suspect there are others who will remember you and be checking in soon. I know you were a former moderator but I am posting a copy of the rules and links because they might have changed in the time you have been gone. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

Hi BeverlyAnn, welcome back to Susan's. It's always nice to see people return especially former moderator's. I currently take care of my disabled mom and brother myself. So I know how difficult and trying that can be for a person. Your among friends again. I look forward to seeing you around the forums. Good luck and Hugs

Hello Bev,
I'm only new and don't know you from before but I know some of what you have been through.
I'm also a carer for my grandmother and before her my grandfather who passed earlier this year.
When we take up this role we loose many of our social contacts, I moved halfway across Australia, but I found Susan's Place.
Welcome back, I hope I get to know you better.
Hugs,
Sarah

Hi Bev,
A big Aussie welcome back to Susan's family. It's good of you to drop in and say "Hi". Hope you like it here, and you stay for a while longer this time. WOW. Back in the 90's eh? From memory, it was 92 or 95 when I first found this family. Lots of things changed since then, but Susans is still the rock it has always been.
There is a mountain of information, resources and friendship waiting for you here, you just need to jump in start talking and ask any question you like. You're quite safe here and we are very accepting. You know where the coffee and cakes are kept, help yourself.
Looking forward to hearing more of your later story in time to come, but in the meantime, be safe, well and happy.
Speak to you as soon as I finish the dishes
Lotsa huggs
Catherine

Thank you everyone for the welcome. Dena, I looked over the rules and all, doesn't look like much has changed. Mariah and Sarah you have my deepest respect and if you ever need someone to talk to who understands what a caregiver for an elderly/disabled person goes through, I'm available. Sarah you're so right about losing social contacts. I was, for a few years, a staff member of the Southern Comfort Conference and was friends with or knew transgender people from all over the country. The other day, I realized that after all those years of caring for mom and my brother, I have one transgender friend left. And we only communicate by phone. That's what led me to sign back up here just so I could be among family, even if it's only online.

BeverlyAnn, I know that goes too. I don't have a tone of local friends either for that same reason of taking care of them. It doesn't make going out and making friends easy when you don't have the time to. It makes us more isolated as a result, but I would choose to do the same again in a heartbeat, always feel free to reach out. Thank You it's much appreciated. Your right the rules haven't really changed. Your among friends now. Hugs
