Title: I did it!! (first real outing)
Post by: Anna33 on November 04, 2015, 03:20:41 PM
I am still feeling overly exited about it. I need to share my experience somewhere

Yesterday my wife took me out on a date. We drove all the way to the port and walked around the park before we went to eat something at the bay. We were sitting on a bench, I was nervous as heck! but nobody even looked at us! I mean they did check us out but in a friendly way. I was wearing a long black jacket and my light coloured skinny fit jeans and sandals, and finally was able to use a bag that she gave me. I am happy beyond words. Super positive experience. And the best of all, i got to use the women's restroom three times! lol. My wife obviously waiting for me outside the stall in a bodyguard stance, which helped me gain a little bit of extra confidence.

We had a long convo about my upcoming novel and a short story I am writing about a transgender girl, which will be some kind of autobiography.

I was feeling so fabulous I drove all the way back home. It wasn't that hard after all. Considering I suffer social anxiety and get super shy out of silly things. Not a single person looked at us strange.

There's still a lot to do, and because we want to do this right it will probably take me a bit, but we want to make sure the transition is super smooth for both and I won't officially come out (tell parental units, close friends, work and change my legal name) until I know exactly what I am doing, but it does feel amazing to be myself. To be a woman. Fortunately in my country name change is super easy after the identity act, and free, so that's a plus. Can't wait to have my new passport and driver license.

PS: in regards to banks, what's the normal thing to do? close all acounts and open new ones or call the bank, explain your situation and request things to be renamed? I have some old accounts in perfect standing and with lots of benefits, I wouldn't like to lose my crdit history.

Thank you all for your time :)

Banks have millions of customers who change their names legally. It's an easy thing for them to deal with. Once you have your name change, your bank should be able to tell you how to get it changed on your account.

After you do your governmental name change, then take the papers to the bank and show them to your bank branch manager.  Getting the name change on the bank accounts should be very simple once you show the people at the bank certified copies of your government or court papers from your name change.

Bear in mind, every time a single person gets married and changes their last name, they have to go to the bank and do the same thing, so the bank should have a procedure.
