Title: a curious question involving name change
Post by: CaptFido87 on November 05, 2015, 09:02:04 PM
Hi friends. So the other day while browsing facebook, I came across a post of a friend who named their newborn child with the same as the father, making it a "junior". This got me wondering. What would happen in the case the father than becomes transgender. Once they emerge as their new identity, in basic terms, the other name no long exists. what would happen to the child? would they still be considered "junior" or would you have to legally change the child's documents too? It intrigued my mind so I want to know what you think.

I believe they wouldn't change it because for all intensive purposes senior would still exist in some ways such as the child's birth certificate despite the transition. It's possible they could get it removed I suppose if they want to. Hugs

Hi Marty,

Well here in the sunny land of Oz, essentially nothing would happen. (It always does, irrespective of the circumstances. You know, standard operating procedures for all Govt departments)

Back to reality, nothing would change or need to be changed. An individuals name is wholely unique unto itself and requires no supporting material.

I could, if I wished, run down to Hatches, Matches and Dispatchers (Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages) and change my name to Emily Louise Theodore Gertrude Froggmore IV, without any supporting proof or documentation. Pay the appropriate fee and I'm off.

<Note to Moderators: How do I change my name here to Emily Jane Louise Theodore Gertrude Froggmore IV? >

Speak to you after I've put the kids to bed.

Huggs
Catherine

It'd probably be treated the same way as when the (senior) father dies.
