QuoteJenner is not the first transgender woman to be named Woman of the Year; last year actress Laverne Cox was honored. Jenner was accompanied by her 18-year-old daughter, Kylie Jenner, and spoke about her journey in her acceptance speech. Speaking to the female-filled audience, she added, "I believe ambition is not a dirty word". Financial Spots http://financialspots.com/2015/11/15/caitlyn-jenner-wins-woman-of-the-year-award/

QuoteThe husband of a cop killed on 9/11 returned his wife's posthumous Woman of the Year award to Glamour after the magazine gave the same honor last week to Caitlyn Jenner.

At least the magazine stood up and said the right things.  :)

At least, he is brave. Yes. He has every right to express his opinion, as long as it is not unlawful.

I wonder if his wife's opinion would have been different though. Seems a shame to disregard her award in order to express his opinion.

I don't really have a grand opinion on this. I'm happy for Caitlyn Jenner and the transgender community, and I'm not completely upset with his response. I've seen and heard worse. If it's something he doesn't understand or want to, I would just give him and much of the world time.

New things in the media to those uneducated and not normally open to it in the first place are going to face negative backlash- they'll be treated as trends or things made for attention because they are garnering just that- attention. Not that it's a bad thing- best thing is to award someone who is delivering the word transgender to many unknowing households. That's impact, and I think that is deserving of recognition.

Yes, the term transgender has always been out there, but the portrayal of transgender as something comical or sexualized, more so- and that might be because the reality of the term and the lives that we live have always been imagined, and not actually talked about.

Of course his comments aren't very helpful, it's just created from ignorance. He doesn't sound like a hateful man, just uneducated.
