Title: First time transitioning
Post by: botanicaladdiction on December 02, 2015, 01:19:47 PM
Hey everyone, I am pretty new to this. I am taking bovine ovary. I have been taking it for about a month now and I havnt noticed much change. How will I know when things start happening? How long should I take it to at least get some breastfeeding growth without losing erections? Will my leg hair get thinner too?

Welcome to Susan's Place. While most alternate medications may be discussed, you will find very few people on the site who use them. The reason is they tend to be pretty costly and provide limited benefits. The are not regulated by the government so often their claims are inflated. The most effective way to transition is through an Endo using prescription medication. Anything that resembles estrogen can cause liver damage so liver function needs to be monitored with regular blood test. Should health issues occur, the dosage can be adjusted to deal with the problem. Should you need assistance in locating a doctor, provide us with the name of a near by city and possibly someone can get you connected to help.

Because there are better alternatives than eating a cow's ovaries.

I tried herbals for a few years, mostly black cohosh and occasionally some others.  They had some effect, but not much.  Eventually I was taking so much that I was getting daily killer migraine headaches.

Other than the Dr. bill, a month's worth of estrogen is less expensive than herbals anyway, even without insurance.  Adding an anti-androgen increases the price a bit but then you are getting an effect no herbal will provide.

I totally agree and personally wouldnt take them myself but thats just my opinion.

Herbals are a nice alternative for those of us that are preparing or skeptical about a complete transition.

Bovine ovaries arent classed as herbal either.

botanicaladdiction, Shandril:

Welcome.

Phyto-estrogen can be fickle because, as you'll read here at Susan's, it works well for some and has no effect on others.

Many common foods are laced with levels of phyto-e and you can also obtain it through herbs, spices, and teas.

Read, study, and learn all you can about phyto-e before getting too involved.  If you try it, you need not spend extra money at specialty shops.  Beware that some teas and concoctions can be tricky if you do not know what you are doing, same danger as with self-medicating on an otherwise prescribed drug.

I studied about herbal remedies for several months and attended classes taught by experienced, licenced herbalists at the herb store before I delved into consuming herbal phyto-e.  I learned to consume phyto-e through a variety of foods, herbs, spices, and teas during or absent ERT; variety is important to me to avoid danger from a single source.

My anatomy takes well to phyto-e.  I was off-meds more than 13 months (2014 - 2015).  I showed within 'low normal' for 'menopausal female' (I am age 59, after all) when I got my semi-annual blood draw from that period; those results satisfied my endo.  I spiked 'high' for 'adult female' at the next blood draw when I was still using phyto-e plus resumed meds.  I am currently doing minimal phyto-e for my latest period to check how I do on meds only.

Deborah:  My grocery chain's pharmacy includes my prescription in their '$10 for 90 days' plan.  I have MediCare; that cuts the price to less than $3 for 90 days.  Yep, there is no need to do exotic forms of ERT when pharmacies fill prescriptions at such reasonable prices.

True, i do plan on going for hrt, im just filling the gap since the waiting list is about a year here in alberta.

Ive taken appropriate steps so far my first psych appt. Is on the 28th, she is even going to fudge the books so i can take full advantage of my benefits which only cover $500 per year.

Long road ahead for sure but no reason i cant fill the next year with some herbal help.
