Title: Hello, my name is Zach
Post by: Zach on December 02, 2015, 08:52:13 PM
Hello, everyone! My name is Zach, I'm a 17-year-old boy and I'm in a confusing place right now. This summer I started becoming confused with my gender, which was startling because I've never really been confused with my gender before. I contemplated the question of what kind of person I really was for weeks on end and even became convinced that I was trans or genderfluid. This became such a draining routine that I started having migraines and felt as if I had a bad fever even though I was fine. I don't know if it was through denial or not but I eventually stopped thinking about it and went back to my usual self and focused on college which was just beginning for me. I recently had a meltdown because of overwork and after crying my eyes out, the gender question cropped up again. These feelings are stronger now which is  why I'm here. My parents don't know anything about it and I've told one trusted friend whose been a great help for calming me down. I have horrible self-esteem and I don't think I'd be passable for a girl, or a genderfluid person. My looks are clearly something holding me back from committing because I consider myself an average at best boy but I have no idea how I'd look with the right amount of estrogen. Even though I'm writing this post and doing the research I still have doubts whether or not I'm actually being serious. A part of me is freaking out and saying, "no! you're obviously a guy" causing me to panic but all the while I have another side of myself that just doesn't want to be judged and wants to have a chance in this world. I don't know if I'm lying to myself about either.

Welcome to Susan's Place. The term transgender covers many forms of expression and the fact that you are here asking indicates you are transgender. I don't know exactly were you fit in because you haven't told me enough about yourself to get a clear picture of what you feel. These feelings can come out anywhere between age 3 and age 60 but commonly they are known around the time somebody enters puberty. At first they can be weak coming and going. As time goes on, they tend to become stronger and harder to ignore. The only treatment is to match your body and life with your mind. You mind can't be treated to make the feeing end.

As you are in school, the campus may have a therapist available you can talk with. As gender therapist would be better for you because they are trained to deal with this. If you can't get treatment through the school, you need to talk with your parents because this will most likely affect your grades if you don't get it under control.

I am on the extreme end of the scale as I am a post surgical transsexual. I had my surgery 33 years ago and the treatment was effective. Should you decide the feminine role is more appropriate, there are many things that can help you pass better. In my case, I had a therapist tell me I was to masculine to pass as a woman. Basically hair, makeup and hormones resulted in my appearance. Others are more comfortable without doing as much as I did. That will be for you to work out.

One thing you can try is to go to youtube and request "the transition channel". This may help you understand where you are or the questions you need to ask. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have on this thread. I am open about my past and will not be offended by your questions. As I have posted to this thread, I will be notified of updates to it so I will see your postings.

Hi Zach and welcome to Susan's. I was fifty-six when my gender struggles came up. I'm 67 now and have never been happier.
