I just got a job at a call center. My training class is pretty large. All of the employees and supervisors have an instant messaging program in the computer system. While the teacher had her screen projected onto the wall a co-worker asked to borrow me, by name "Preston", because she had to do some tax paperwork. She used female pronouns. My entire class thinks I am male. I don't know how many people saw the conversation but it was up on the screen several times for several minutes. Now I feel awkward in my class. Any advice?

I think I would exploit any possible confusion by simply doing nothing. Let them assume that your colleague was confused/drunk/whatever, rather than making any kind of announcement to contradict it. And I'd talk privately to the colleague to let them know/remind them, that misgendering is not acceptable.

I wouldn't say anything about it to anyone in the class. If they bring it up and you want to maintain your stealth, just shrug it off. "I don't know, that was weird now that you mention it. Huh."

I would say something to the co-worker that misgendered you, and the teacher if they are in the know about your status. Let them know that while you understand your documents say one thing currently, that that is not the case and you would appreciate their continued discretion and proper use of your name and male pronouns. If they react badly, take it above them. Especially if you live in a place with trans legal protections.
