Thanks, in large part to the stories I've read here of other women's stories, I came out to my wife last night. I'm 40, married 15 years, a wonderful 2 year old boy, and play fiddle for several country bands in a pretty conservative community. In short, a very defined male role in a not so accepting town or profession. My wife was confused somewhat, even though I explained gender ID is different than sexual orientation, she is suspicious that I'm gay. She's worried about confusing our son, and I think that she's thinking along the lines that I'm suddenly going to show up in drag at her work Christmas party! I told her that I will continue to present as a M (for now?) and who knows what the future holds? We will cross the bridges as we come to them.
She has always known I wear panties and pantyhose/tights, but thought that was simply a fetish and the extent of it.
Thank you girls for your advice and stories, they have helped me voice something I've known about myself since I was nine.

Here are a few resources that might help:
https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,197523.msg1756901.html#msg1756901
Your wife might also have a look at this site... maybe she wants to ask a few questions, its anonymous...
and there is a significant others section where people talk about similar issues...
nice nickname by the way...
*hugs*

A hearty welcome to Susan's, Nat. When I first came out I encouraged my wife to ask any questions that she had. Be prepared to answer any questions that she may ask. Be sure to read up as much information as you can.
:)

Thanks ladies, I know this is just the start, and I gotta admit I'm scared of what the future holds. But, I can finally sleep knowing I made that big first step.

At risk of pointing out the obvious, I seek to understand. I am at a loss for words reading so many stories, good, bad, similar, different. Thank you all.

Welcome to our community. You are correct. gender orientation has little to do with your sexual and/or romantic preferences. Some girls experience some changes in their preferences as they go through their transitions. Others don't.
I like it how Jenny boylan put it: My arrow kept pointing at females, in fact, it kept pointing at my wife.
I am also a les trans girl married to a cis-woman and totally commited to my marriage. There are lots of girls like us in this community :)
