So, I damn near came out at work last night. I was down on the end of our unit that only staffs two nurses and a tech (if we have one). The nurse said she wanted to see a picture of me with long hair, so I pulled up my Flickr and first showed them the most recent pic of me with what I considered long hair, which was only because I couldn't even afford to get my hair cut at the time. The nurse said, "You could actually pass for a man in that one, even with the hair." I was like, "Yeah? You think so?" Maybe sounded too excited about that, cause I never thought I looked at all masculine in that pic. Then I showed them some much, much older pics with long hair, before I ever got it all cut off, like from 25 years ago. The tech said, "Wow, you look like a girl in those pics." The nurse said, "She is a girl, Betty." I kind of grimaced and said, "Well...." And Betty asked, "What? You don't like looking like a girl?" I quickly said, "No. I don't. Not at all." Part of my head was screaming, "Just tell them!!!!" But then the call light went off, and we had to go do work, so the moment to have done it passed me by.

So you came out a little bit.
Might make it easier for you to tell them the next time. In my opinion coming out is a process, not something that suddenly happens and then the entire world is up to speed  :laugh:

I had a similar thing yesterday but in the other direction.  One of my friends came over to my desk to talk and as usual was joking about my lack of haircut (all in good humor).  Then after saying I look like a woman he asks if I'm going to change my name like Caitlyn Jenner.  LOL

So I just smiled and almost said it but finally settled on  "maybe I will."  That earned me an odd look from another guy that sits at the next desk over.  I wonder what he was thinking.

Coming out at work is really tricky, I found it was easiest to just talk to co-workers I was close to, and let everybody else make their own assumptions.

The best thing I ever did was get a new job, I had a pretty neutral name so I managed to do it relatively stealth. But I know that not everybody is in a situation where they can do that.

I have a feeling that this topic may come up again. So don't be surprised.  ;)
