Title: Mothers say the darndest things!
Post by: Ms Grace on December 13, 2015, 01:02:07 AM
I've misplaced something fairly essential for an appointment with my tax agent on Monday. My fellow Australians would know this as a Group Certificate. I've searched pretty much every inch of my place, sometimes twice, but with no luck. (I have found a few other things that I'd been trying to locate though!!!). It's not the end of the world, I can get a replacement but it will probably make the appointment with the tax agent a bit of a bust.  :P

Anyway, I was telling my mother this and she says "I don't want you to get upset when I say this..." (which is something she says every time she is about to raise the gender-thing) "but maybe you're looking for it like a man not a woman..."

Hahaha, whaaaaaaaaat??

I think she pictured me ripping through pile after pile of documents making an even bigger mess in the process. This presumably is how men look for things. Actually I was carefully going through every pile, sheet by sheet, in fact making it tidier than it was before. I'm guessing this is the "female way of looking for stuff" since it met with her approval!! ;D ::)

Yeah that was cute. Two weeks ago my mom was looking at my all smoothed face an said to me
"You're trying to look like me, you'd better stop next thing you know you'll have bad credit and hot flashes.  ??? WTH! Lol. I just chuckled and said oooook.🤔

OK, this isn't quite on topic, but anyway (my mother is dead, so that's my excuse!):  a while ago I changed my Facebook profile picture to a close-up of a gerbil. A very motherly friend who has been wonderfully supportive of my transition commented: "OK, Tysilio, now you've gone too far!!"

(My response was "But I've always wanted whiskers...")

Here I thought trying to find stuff was gender neutral.

Me too! Maybe it's like languages that have a gender for words, this is a gender for activities!

Yeah, I hear people do that stuff all the time to other people.I think it's a silly means to throw gender roles upon things that realistically shouldn't have gender roles.

I even made a meme about it  ^_^ .
